Hi IQ Users,

In this release (v0.9.26PreRel58a) :
  • Fixed: Using the new caption editor (introduced in v0.9.26PreRel57) could erase some field properties.
  • New: Tooltips in grids and Properties pane only show when pressing Ctrl only
  • Fixed: If more than 1 item is selected, Item info showed nothing
  • Fixed: Grid: Pop-up list of type fixed list did not save changes correctly if done exclusively with the mouse

All users who installed v0.9.26PreRel57 should upgrade.

thanks Pierre! Now I see the transparency on selection. I like it; very useful. I wonder if it'd be possible to also see "highlights" in text (somewhat/somehow)), but it's a detail.

tooltips with the ctrl modifier is also good. I'm not always able to see them if I don't first click in the grid, but that's a detail too.

Thanks again.

Hi Pierre . . . I finally took the big step and upgraded from 09.26Pre-Rel13 to Rel58a.  It didn't go well. Tool bar stability was erratic, Calendar date-filter toolbar came and went, Calendar froze when I resized it, overwrite displayed on top of Calendar events, Calendar events didn't display in chronological order for the day, etc.

So I gave up and unloaded Rel58a and reloaded Rel13.  But the Rel13 toolbars wouldn't reload.  So I unloaded Rel13 and reloaded Rel58a, but it froze on  opening.  So I unloaded and reloaded Rel58a again but no difference, it freezes on opening.

So right now I'm totally without InfoQube, I cannot access my daily calendar nor any of my daily project management data.

What do you suggest I do?  There must be some corrupted files somewhere that aren't deleted when I unload the program.

I'm running Windows 7 Professional Service Pack 1.

Thank you.

  1. Is this with the installer version?
  2. By unload do you mean uninstall?

The manual says that IQ files are also stored in the user folder -- details are for XP but should be findable in 7:

5- Copying user settings and IQ configuration files

Whether installing onto a new drive/folder (USB or other) or moving from Installable to Portable flavors, users will want to move their settings with them. All settings are saved in the following folder:
  • Installable: Documents and settings\YourUserName\Application Data\InfoQube (XP)
  • Portable: Your IQ folder\Users\YourUserName

disclaimer:
I'm not advising to delete anything - if you do delete anything, best to create a backup first.

Yes, it is the Installer Version.  Yes, unload means uninstall.

Whenever upgrading in the past I was always careful to save the working database as well as a backup copy.  This process always transferred all user settings for me.  I have been careful to preserve an "uncorrupted" backup copy in this instance too, but copying/renaming/opening it doesn't seem to mitigtate my current dilema.

Hi Doug,

Sorry to hear about your issues upgrading. That sure is a big step... 2 years of updates worth.

You have a couple of options.
  1. If you have a backup of your IQBase before upgrading to v58a, then you can go back to v13. Uninstall v58a and install v13. I should be able to supply you with an installer if I look into my backups. Once installed, try to open your backup to see if all is well.
  2. If you don't have a backup or if you want to move on to v58a, then I'm sure we'll be able to fix the current issues. Around the time of v13, a new calendar component was implemented to replace the aging "Outlook-like" one originally used. The new one aimed at being more compatible with the rest of IQ and be more innovative. Some work still needs to be done to be completed. But, it should be mostly functional. See The New Calendar for more information on the new calendar. You can also use the portable flavor of v58a and have it side by side with v13 to compare.
I'll try document the "new" calendar in the coming days and will most likely run into some issues to be fixed.
If you can, you can send me a copy of your IQBase (private email) and we'll work together to get you going.

HTH !

I have had a problem in the past with the following situation:

IQ is set to open previous file with last layout on starting.
Sometimes opening the previous layout would hang, and nothing would happen.
File name would show in titlebar, but nothing could be done i.e. a freeze.
-
There was a way of starting IQ + the file using a qualifier key to stop it loading any grids -- anyone remember that and how it worked?

Re the un/re-install Pierre, he already tried going back to #13 and it didnt work.
Could it be possible that the more recent version download was corrupted -- I have had that in the past (with various software), but normally if just means the zip cannot be decompressed, or that the exe file simply wont work.

thanks Pierre and Tom for your thoughts,

Yes, I have an uncorrupted data base file and Yes I have the Rel13 Installer, but when I reinstalled Rel13 and used it to open a copy of the uncorrupted data base, the tool bars showed up as ghosted images only, no tools were on the toolbars.

So then I uninstalled Rel13 again (I always use InfoQube Uninstaller) and then reinstalled Rel58a, went thru that process twice, and both times InfoQube hung on opening a copy of the uncorrputed data base.

It seems to me there must be a lingering file somewhere, one that doesn't uninstall and is corrupted thats causing this???

Hi Doug,

That must be it. You can delete the files in the IQ user data folder and then open your V13 file. You can also start IQ as another user, there is a .bat file in the installation folder for this.

I'll be back from my small holidays tomorrow

Hi Pierre,

I'm wondering now if it might be a conflict with the video and/or graphics driver set off when I installed Rel58a.  Because tonight I did some experimenting with different compatibility settings (right click screen icon > properties > compatibility tab) and screen resolution settings and after each successive setting change I lost more and more of the InfoQube screen.  Initially I'd just lost the tool bars down to ghosted images but still had the grids, now I've lost those too and InfoQube no longer opens full screen, just a tiny box in the upper left hand corner of the screen.

I'd be very much surprised if there were a conflict with video driver. IQ does not play with such low level stuff.

  1. Can you provide a screen shot ?
  2. Can you resize the window ?
  3. Have you tried the portable version ?
  4. Were you able to get v13 back to working before the upgrade ? I've updated the installation page to show where user settings are stored in Vista and up (see InfoQube Program Install and Set-up)

Hi Pierre,

Loaded the Portable Version and everything went slick as a whistle.  Played around in it for a couple hrs and it seems very stable.  All my grid settings and most of my customized settings were automatically imported/applied so I didn't have to spend much time on that.

No, I never could get the Installer version of Rel13 to work right again, even with the original installer program, it was as badly degraded as Rel58a.  Screen shot below of what they both looked like in the end, basically blank.  At first my big issue was ghosted toolbars, but as I tried different screen resolutions and compatibility settings I progressively lost the ghosted toolbars and then the grids and then other screen components, down to the basically blank screen as per below.

So . . . Thank You Very Much For Your PROMPT Help Pierre, Most Appreciated!   Happy Canada Thanksgiving.

This is great news that the portable version works fine for you !

I suspect the issue with your installed version is the file menu.dat which is not erased when you uninstall (by design so your menu settings are kept). However jumping back and forth between v13 and v58 was too big of a jump and the menu system was getting more and more corrupt. Deleting that file would get you back on your feet. Either way, the portable version works and is easier to manage as it is not in a protected folder
