Auto-assign tagged items as subitems?

Submitted by WayneK on 2021/01/29 17:01
Can tagged items be automatically assigned as subitems of a specified parent?

I know I  can do it manually but it takes several steps and has to be constantly re-done as more items are tagged.

Is there any way to automate these steps so that newly tagged items will instantly appear as subitems of a defined parent?.

Show in Home View suggestion - refilter grid and keep item selection

Submitted by jimspoon on 2021/01/29 12:22
Say I have a particular item highlighted in one grid, but I want to see it in the context of another grid, along with the items above and below it.  The destination pane is not shown in "Shown in n grids" in the properties pane, because it's not open.  So I right click on the item and select "Show in Home View".  Then I get taken to that grid, and the item is shown hoisted.  I turn off the hoist filter, but then i can see the item I was on, because it does not meet the filter I currently have applied to the Home View.  Instead the highlight goes to the unrelated item at the top of the Home View.  Suggestion: when the hoist filter is removed, how about a message giving me the opportunity to change the grid filter, and once the selected item meets the filter, show that item in the Home View with that item selected?

scratch grid for ItemHasHTML field returns all items in database

Submitted by jimspoon on 2021/01/27 00:48
Right now I have about 90K items in my database, but only 1965 items have anything in the document pane.  Even so, if I double-click the ItemHasHTML field to load the items with document content in the scratch grid, IQ says "using the current settings, the grid would contain at least 90613 items".  Usually for a Y/N field IQ would load only the items that are checked - but maybe it's different for ItemHasHTML, because of its special function relating to the document pane?

dragging a file over a vertical tab switches IQ to that grid

Submitted by jimspoon on 2021/01/25 16:09
I was exploring with dragging a file to an IQ grid item and discovered that if the cursor passed over a vertical tab during the drag, no matter how briefly, IQ switched to that grid.  So I ended up dropping the item in the wrong grid.  Now if I realized the grid had switched, I could hover the cursor over the intended grid and switch back to it.  But maybe put in a small delay before IQ switches to a grid whose tab has been crossed over?

syncing IQ with file system - would you like this feature?

Submitted by jimspoon on 2021/01/24 13:33
Hi IQ users!

Would you like to sync your IQ database with NTFS folders?  So that if you have a file in a particular file system folder, you will also automatically have an IQ item linked to that file?  I think that would be monumental.  You could attach your own fields and values to those files, tags, etc.  You could use IQ to find files meeting your filter criteria, along with your other IQ items.

This would solve a big problem for me.  It's inevitable that we have a separate organization of files relating to different subjects, but they aren't synced up with our notes in Infoqube.  Say we are trying to keep an inventory of things we own, their current locations, etc.  For a particular item, we might have a file system folder of photos or documents pertaining to a particular item, but there may not be an IQ item for this inventory item or any subitems, etc.  So currently I have two diffe

Doc Pane for certain grids only

Submitted by WayneK on 2021/01/23 20:18
Is there any way to display the doc pane for some grids but not others?

Pretty sure sure the answer is no but I really want it to be yes.

Would love to use more images in InfoQube but have never been able to figure out how to fit the doc pane into my work set up.  If I make it big enough to be useful, it crowds out other work.

If I could display it just in grids dedicated to images, the problem would be solved.

Newbie - Help - Copying outlines

Submitted by Maxbear35 on 2021/01/17 15:29
I expect this has been asked many times before but I can't seem to find a definitive answer.

How do I copy outlines between databases. Drag and drop would be ideal but it does not seem to work. I need to keep the formatting and structure.

Each outline has about 160 entries with Dates and other information attached. It's a ongoing project that I have to have sorted by this week.

Any help would be appreciated.
