EccoPro on Outliner Forum

Submitted by jan_rifkinson on 2009/04/20 08:37
As I was  browsing the most recent Outliner Forum posts, I came across an article on EccoPro + webcapture extension which led me back to the EccoPro extensions forum, etc.  I was amazed by what seems to be available for this venerable program which many of us used so many years ago. Now that it's open source, it's almost like an APP store has opened to service EccoPro, bringing what was an advanced program for it's day into the 21st century.  Bottom line,  I'm wondering -- at the end of the day -- exactly how IQ will differntiate itself from all that.  Part of IQ development seems to be re-inventing the wheel but I'm sure it is more advanced / sophisticated but I wonder how that translates into it's practical use by most users who are looking for a calendar + single pane outliners.   Sometimes I feel like I'm waiting for stuff here that already exists in EccoPro.

gant

Submitted by jan_rifkinson on 2009/04/17 10:13
Pierre, the two options for gantt display seem to be only one... or one that remains & one that comes & goes. There is one view that has months on top & nothing else, i.e. no day, week, month, etc (I'm assuming these are the zoom buttons). I am only interested in seeing the months w/o all that other stuff w hich I only find confusing @ this time. But it seems to drop out, disappear. Any help here would be appreciated. Thx

Overstrike turned off - should this not work with paste as well?

Submitted by Tom on 2009/04/16 08:32
I thought this was a bug report but not sure now:

with Overstrike mode turned off I would have expected that if I paste in a cell, that the pasted text would be added to the current content.
Instead it replaces the current text - i.e. it works in Overstrike mode even if this mode is turned off

I would expect (and like) to see the option that pasted text would be added to text in the cell (when OVR turned off)
What do you think?

sorting - not

Submitted by jan_rifkinson on 2009/04/15 08:26
Pierre, Here's the situation:

sort on item
1 item in list is a link but the item text begins w letter "J"
following items begin w A,B,C,D etc

sorting does not move link item to proper position between "I" & "K"

Edited 04/15/09 08:54 am: This problem seems to be another one of those weird little things that occur in IQ that are solved by closing & re-opening program. I run into these type problems, ex: shortcuts stop working, sorting, etc quite frequently as don't close IQ at the end of each days work. "Why don't you close IQ @ day's end", someone asked. "Because", I said.

Text on Grid Toolbar/Menu at Left of UI

Submitted by J-Mac on 2009/04/15 01:53
Pierre,

On the Grid Toolbar - hopefully I am describing that correctly - the grid names are shown with the text sideways with the bottom of the text toward the left and the top toward the right. This is in contrast to the only other programs that I use with a similar vertical toolbar:  Microsoft OneNote 2007. OneNote 2007 has a very similar toolbar that shows the Notebook names in tabs down the left side of the UI, but with the text facing the opposite way. All other applications that I use that use a sidebar to the left side have wider sidebars that show the items in regular horizontal text.

At first I found the tabs in OneNote 2007 to be somewhat annoying because I was not accustomed to reading menu text sideways like that. However over time I have gotten used to it - well, at least as used to it as I am going to get, I guess.

Grid chooser

Reference an old post, about having a bunch of grids, and finding them difficult to manage:    http://www.donationcoder.com/Forums/bb/index.php?topic=10432.350    (reply #351)

I too have 30+ grids I use regularly, and was looking for a better way to choose a grid.

This idea hit me yesterday, after looking at 1.1.6.1.4.2.3 in the sample file (File>New, under Welcome, Links, Hyperlinks in the outliner, Examples)

I came up with an idea of using a bunch of

"This will open the Scratch grid with all <a [Addressbook]>your contacts</a> displayed    "    lines, and revising them for the nearly 30 grids I regularly use.

I then setup a vertical tab group, and  sorted by Item. Results show in the Scratch grid.

New Calendar demo

Submitted by Pierre_Admin on 2009/04/12 12:21
Codejock, which supplies many of the UI components used by IQ, has released a new version. One component which was significantly upgraded is the Calendar.

Two new features worth noting:
  • Full-week view now supports the same multi-column display as the work-week view (1 column per day)
  • Timeline view: An endless scrollable view where time is shown as a horizontal scale. At least 3 scales are build-in (day, week, month) Kind of line the Gantt view but without the support for columns, links, etc. but tuned for display of calendar events

In addition, yet another release is planned for June or so and should support days with variable column width and resizable column widths.

Fonts in the grid refusing to show @ 10 point size (except Arial)

Submitted by Tom on 2009/04/11 18:07
some most fonts refuse to show at 10 point in the grid (they revert to 9 point)

Arial Narrow
Garamond
Palatino Linotype
Toledo
and a bunch of other obscure ones arent working @ 10 point

In fact the only one I've found so far that does actually show @ 10 point is Arial
I tried Palatino via Grid > Options but that reverted to 9 point as well - these fonts are working okay in other apps

- of course for one particular grid I want to make the font 10 point - 9 is too small for reading a lot of items and 11 I find unnecessarily big/wasteful of space
