Selected cell border

I've been thinking that I disklike the "highlight selected cell" option, regardless of whether I have a "semi-transparent selector" enabled or not. When I do, the contrast between text and background of the selected cell is rather poor. When I don't, the item text colour is no longer displayed. I use text colours heavily to reflect item priority and contexts (as in GTD) so that doesn't really cut it either. The thing is, when I disable "highlight selected cell" to enter a more simple, Ecco-style mode of highlighting, it becomes quite hard to discern the selected cell, which leads me to suggest that a thicker frame around it (currently it's only a very thin dotted line) would be useful.

Grid Images

This is what I'd like to be able to do with images in the grid:

1) Display thumbnails big enough to see what the image contains
2) Link to the full-size image in another program for full viewing.

So far I've been using screen capture / paste.  I've had the following problems:

1) Images must go in the item column, which means descriptors have to go in another column.  I can make that work though I'd prefer the flexibility of putting images into any text column so the name and description can go in the item column.

2) When pasted, images appear in different sizes and can't be re-sized inside InfoQube.

3) The images are usually cut off at the bottom and side.  The view can be expanded by dragging row and column borders, but when I return later I often find the image cut off again.

So I'd like

An easy way to create links when typing a note in the Document Pane

It would be nice if there was a quick simple way of creating a link from one note (item) in InfoQube to another note in InfoQube whilst typing without having to call up a dialog box and search for the target note.  It would be even better if there was a way to create a link to a non existant note and later when that link was followed InfoQube would create a blank note with the name referred to in the link.  Linking from a search in a dialog box achieves the same results but it breaks the train of thought.

In ConnectedText you just type [[ and a drop down list of names appears after you have tyepd the first character of the name, the list narrows to match what you type as you type until you either select one from the list or finish typing the name with ]].  If you typed a name which doesn't exist then ConnectedText just creates a page with that name when the link is first followed and ope

A minor annoyance

I have two screens on my laptop.  At least I do when it is sitting on my desk at home or my desk at work, when it is elsewhere it only has one screen.

It used to be that when I opened InfoQube it would open on the laptop screen (and it still does when there is no other screen available) but recently it has started opening on the second screen and I have to drag it back to the laptop screen.

I usually use the second screen for a full screen document pane locked to a particular document for editing.

What determines which screen InfoQube opens in ?

How can I change it ?

Some thoughts on the Surface

Submitted by Paul_J_Miller on 2019/01/02 08:06

InfoQube Surface has a lot of potential to be a really great tool for the arrangement, clustering and juxtaposition of ideas.

It would be nice if the Surface would re-draw itself with the node (item) which has the focus at the centre of the window pane.  Re-drawing with the focused node at the centre shows it in context and this is much more useful.

It would be nice if there were multiple surfaces but that is probably not going to happen anytime soon.

An alternative to multiple surfaces would be to have different clusters of nodes (items) in different positions on the surface, each cluster remote from the others.  But this introduces the problem of finding (scrolling to) the correct cluster when you display the Surface and that brings me back to the other point.  Finding the correct position on the surface would not be a problem if the Surface re-drew itself with the focused node at the centre of the display.

High CPU usage / crashing when deleting text in edit mode

I'd observed this a couple of times before but couldn't reproduce it until now:

Create an item with this text (paste as single item, might want to lose the quotes):

"For up/down arrows:

None: Focus Next / Previous item
    Shift: Select items
Ctrl: Scroll view up / down
Ctrl + Shift: Focus Next / Previous item + Scroll
Alt: Move items Up / Down
Shift + Alt: Focus Next / Previous sibling
Shift + Alt + Ctrl: Focus Next / Previous sibling, add sibling if at end

Drag and drop glitch

With a parent / child branch expanded in the grid view, try to drag and drop another item to be the topmost child under the top level parent, i.e. to be item 1.1 just under item 1.

This will succeed only if you release the mouse button with the cursor on the top half of the grid line that holds the current topmost child (1.1 before the drop). If you drop on the bottom half of the parent item, dropped item will be sent further down to become the next top level item (i.e. item 2 - this is the bug). If you wait for the cursor to change (hover over the bottom half of item 1) before releasing, dragged item will become the bottmost child, i.e. item 1.5 or something.

Bottom line: when branch is expanded, drop without hover over bottom half of parent item should make dropped item top child, not sibling to parent item (like it would if the branch wasn't expanded).
