refresh all grids

Submitted by reesd on 2010/07/08 19:38
I hope I am missing something, but I can't find a way to refresh all the visible grids. Basically an F5 for everything that is open. I tried Shift-F5 just in case (and its not in the shortcuts), but it obviously didn't work.

Having multiple views on the same data is a real strength of IQ that Ecco had as well, but I need to be able to edit the data without clicking several refresh buttons.

Thanks,
d

"downwards" column equations

Submitted by Armando on 2010/07/08 16:10
More or less Copied from one of my own post there :  upward inheritance

Suggestion : Implement downwards column equations.

When I last tried (in the field equation section : sum(parents) ) IQ said something like "Not implemented yet"...

Downward column equation -- if implemented like upward column equations --  would allow something like conditional inheritance, etc.
So instead of having stuff propagating everywhere, I could decide when something is inherited or not.

Inheritance behaviour : some reminders + suggestions

Submitted by Armando on 2010/07/08 15:49
Hi Pierre,

you probably noted that somewhere, but that's what I remember from out discussion a while ago :

  •     When field content is changed by user, content won't change when moved. (won't inherit another value automatically)
  •     Pop-up to warn user when Item is moved and data will be changed, so that user can chose what will happen. (Usefull for project, etc. where one can chose what project should a task inherit the characteristics, when it has multiple project parents)

Other possibility, but problematic IMO  (too many situations where this would be annoying):

  • main parent data wins (when multiple parents)

Display issues of the notifications pane itself (pane on/off)

Submitted by Armando on 2010/07/08 14:03
Please post your notifications  pane problem here -- not so much what it displays but the pane itself showing up or not.

I haven't delved into the details, but here's a start :

1- Sometimes the pane is checked in the view menu, but invisible in the UI. This usually happens after an IQ restart.

2- The zoom function F11 does some weird things with it.

Notifications pane doesn't show info consistantly.

Submitted by Armando on 2010/07/08 12:58

the Notifications pane only shows info for
1- Columns (fields) headers
2- fields names in the properties pane
3- incompletely displayed cells content in the grids (if the cell shows all info, notification shows nothing -- at least, that's what I'm observing here).
4- text cells with carriage returns inside (shift-enter, actually)

2 possible enhancements :

1- IMO the notifications pane  should show cell details and field details all the time on "mouse over", whether the field content is displayed completely or not, or has carriage returns or not.

2- the grid info tooltips should also appear in the notification pane area  (and , why not, any other tooltip?)

[EDITED FOR BETTER CLARITY + added a few details.]

Notifications Pane: Fields with different grid caption not being read from Forms >Current Grid [& other problems]

Submitted by Tom on 2010/07/08 06:12

this appears to be a (minor) bug with the Notifications pane

I have a field displaying in the grid - the caption in the grid is different from the actual field name. I have no entry in Manage Fields under Caption (Properties pane)
In the properties pane it shows under it's actual name - but in the forms under Current Grid, it shows using the grid caption name -
the notification pane is unable to read it from this location (Current Grid)

(hope that's clear enough)

Focus in the properties pane: shouldnt it stay there if I move away from IQ & back again?

Submitted by Tom on 2010/07/06 09:06

Currently:
If a field in the properties pane has focus: i.e. select an item in the grid, then go to a field in the P.Pane -
Alt+Tab to another app & back again to IQ -
the properties pane no longer has focus - the item in the grid has focus.

This is a problem if you want to copy some text to paste into the field selected in the p.pane (Alt+Tab ->Copy; Alt+Tab ->Paste) or if you are using a clipboard extender for the same result - in both cases the pasted text goes into whichever field was previously selected in the grid instead of into the field selected in the p.pane.

I got caught out a few times this way in the last while (I'm no typist - I often have to look at the keyboard when I use it).

Drag file from explorer causes IQ to sieze up

With this new version a grid gets "messed up" when I drag/drop a file from explorer. Sorry, I can't really describe the behavior.

Yes, I got that problem too when dragging and dropping from explorer. It's a display problem where the grid appears with pieces of other windows etc.. I had to close the grid and reopen. This started with this new version.

I'm going to have to revert to previous version because of this

tooltips for... Fields in the Propeties pane + Grids cells + Grids tabs : more complete

Submitted by Armando on 2010/07/05 15:46
Pierre : is there a reason why the tooltips are incomplete in the

1- properties pane (only the fields name is shown),
2- for grid cells
3- Grid tabs (the "Description" info, when fairly large, is truncated here -- sometime though, I'd like that info as it gives directions on how to use the grid)

If I want the complete info, I absolutely need to have the new notifications pane opened, but I don't want to open it all the time (especially when the properties pane is opened) as it takes too mush screen estate.

So, if possible  : can we have the complete info in the properties pane + grid cells + Grid tabs tooltips too (like for the fields headers in the grid)

P.S. : I understand that the notifications pane is the new display device for tool tips info, but please don't underestimate tooltips as such...
