"Shown in" in Search dialogue

Submitted by thorsten on 2010/10/16 11:04
In the search dialogue, the "shown in" field often stays empty. Does it still only show the items that are actually visible in the respective grid because they are currently opened?

I think there have been some discussions on that this field should show all items included in the grid, not only the currently opened ones.. Are there technical restrictions that make this not possible or is this change in the development pipeline?

Thank you for feedback! Regards, Thorsten

PS: It would be nice if one could see if IQ has finished searching or how long it still takes to search all items.. (i.e. with a progress bar).

<SOLVED> Formatting not shown correctly in first shown grid after program launch

Submitted by thorsten on 2010/10/15 15:24
Another issue:
Upon the launch of IQ, the first (automatically) opened grid does not show any formatting although some of the lines are in bold. If I duplicate the grid or open a second, third, etc. one, the formatting is shown correctly. Therefore this is no problem of lost formatting, it simply does not appear in the first opened grid after launch.

This problem has been existing in all prior versions that I remember (at least a year or so..), so I would be happy to see this solved. Anybody else having this problem?

Best regards, Thorsten

password check (2 times) on activating pivot table

Submitted by thorsten on 2010/10/15 14:20
Hi there,

in my password protected database there is a "feature" which is a bit annoying. Each time I click on Pivot table, IQ asks me to enter the password, and it asks even 2 times!

This "feature" has been that way for many versions, and it is quite annoying if you use pivot tables more than seldomly...It seems to be independent of the computer configuration as I experience the same behaviour on two different laptops.

Anybody has the same problem? Pierre, do you have an idea how to fix this?

Thanks a lot!
Thorsten

[How do I] easily show all the text in a field cell?

Submitted by Tom on 2010/10/15 09:15

My limited style of use of IQ shows up whenever I'm doing something different !

I want to be able to see all the text in a multiline field - currently only one line shows (which I find good)
The only way I have found to show the text is via the tooltip or when I put the cell into edit mode.
These are both awkward I find.

Is there any other way?

Ideally I'd like a shortcut (e.g. F8) that would toggle-expand the cell to show all it's contents.
That way I can move quickly up down the grid with arrows etc and easily show/hide full cell contents when I want.

[IDEA] ability to add info to a field of choice in the web clipping dialogue

Submitted by Tom on 2010/10/13 15:35

IDEA:
the ability to add info to a field of choice in the web clipping dialogue -
I was thinking of a text field.

==> Maybe this could be done via the 'Other Fields' box - e.g. [Text in square brackets after the fieldname gets added to that field?]

LOGIC:
for when you dont want too much (or varied) info in the item field, but the surplus info is not really enough to justify using the HTML pane (or you want to keep all the info in the grid for clarity &/or for simple export)

Scenario:
  • I'm currently researching websites related to certain topics. I'm mostly just saving a weblink. I will be exporting the resulting info from IQ for others (as a webpage).
  • To keep it clear & simple I'm just putting the title of site and page in the item field.

System fields to show automatically in tree view

Submitted by KeithB on 2010/10/12 19:39
I have been creating a y/n field, called system or systemfield, and manually assigning all the system fields to it.
The properties pane in the tree view then is much easier to read, and works better for me, in that I know what fields have been created (non-system).

It would be great to either have this a stock feature (and able to pick-up new system fields you add), or an easier way than my manual one-by-one method.
