Is a field allowed to start with an underscore
e.g.
_GridNr1

I've created a grid with that format and when I open it I get warning
---------------------------
SQLNotes
---------------------------
Error opening grid. Check grid source criteria.
---------------------------
OK
---------------------------

it opens all right but I dont trust it - to use it I mean

I noticed Armando had named a bunch of his grids like that so they would show up first on the grid list when sorted by name
I renamed a few which wasnt a problem so the problem appears to be with field name format

Disappearing Titles

There have periodic posts about disappearing something or other. Well, here's another one.

Next to version # I insert day / time via context menu clock because short cut keys are non functional. I did nothing unusual before the above disappearance. I think
I was in another view. Then returned to this one.  This is scary.  Pierre, I hope you can find an answer to this.  If I can document it better, I will append it to this post.

recycle bin

Pierre, I defintely think IQ should have some sort of recycle bin.

Yes, you do provide warnings but IMO the program is so complex that users will invariably end up deleting items when they didn't mean to. Valuable info could be lost.

Not for nothing but both ADM, UltraRecall & I believe Zoot, have this facility

Thanks for  your consideration.

[how to] retrieve deleted items

Submitted by jan_rifkinson on 2009/01/28 11:44

Note the blue repeat of the title "What are They Thinking"
This appeared along with a child called "Research", also blue
"Research" also appeared as a sibling to "Drafts" in black
I deleted the blue "research" and the other "research" also disappeared.

Two Questions:

1. How / why do the blue items appear as I don't want them there
2. Where does deleted item go? If it is permanently deleted (despite the options offered) I would suggest either an IQ Recycle Bin  (like UltraRecall or ADM) or have the deleted items directed to Windows Recycle Bin

I found what I was looking for!

Post from markfoley in the old forum (nov 4th 2008)

My path started with Evernote, which is powerful but doesn't reinforce good practices.  You can add checkbox 'to dos' anywhere in your notes, but they disappear up in the 'endless tape' kind of like inbox items that get forgotten once they are off the bottom of the page.  Also I realised project management (and life in general) is filled with 'issues' or tasks (see about power bill, ask bob for presentation) rather than a stream of notes.  So, tracking the same  issue with a new note every week got out of control, and soon it was so hard to find my previous notes on that subject I'd just start repeating what I could remember from last time.

Editing items

Item text and other field values can be editing in most views and in the Properties pane:
  1. Grids
  2. Map View
  3. IQ Surface
  4. Calendar
  5. Card View
  6. Item Editor
Grids have in-place editing (in both plain text and WYSIWYG). In other views the Pop-up editor or the Item Editor can be used to edit. Use Shift+F2 / Ctrl+E to open these

1. In Grids

Grids is the most common way to view and edit items. It has view and edit modes. Press F2 to switch between the two:
  • When editing, the left-right cursors/ is limited to the cell.
  • The up-down arrows are limited to the cell if the Up/Dn button on the status bar is enabled ().

Writing Assignments

Submitted by jan_rifkinson on 2009/01/27 08:15
Frequently I have writing assignments, ie an article or an oped piece for the newspaper.

The process includes:
1. setting up a project name, ie "InfoQube Review"
1. gathering research from emails, newspaper or web pages & other such clippings
2. writing a number of drafts w word count to refine the article
3. sending it publisher & incorporate notes if any
4. final article with published date, Media, etc

I know how to do this is another program but I'd like to discuss the best ways to use IQ for this purpose.

It may be that IQ is not suited for this kind of work however i tend to doubt that.

I know many writers who use Zoot for this purpose and I know how to do it with UltraRecall but IQ is a different animal & I'm not conversant enough with the program to noodle this thru by myself.
