explaining the beta numbering scheme

Submitted by jan_rifkinson on 2009/10/14 17:20
Sometimes I wondered about the numbering scheme that Pierre employs. And the more I thought about it the more confused I got because it didn't seem to fit a pattern -- or @ least a pattern I could discern.

I mean between the number + decimal + letter + number we could be in beta for centuries. Just in 9.24, we still have the possibility of  another 19 letters of the alphabet after "g"+ an infinite array of numbers following each letter. Can you imagine beta v9.24z713?

Then one day, while in the shower, it dawned on me. Once we hit 9.25, Pierre has to start work on the calendar according to roadmap. Maybe he's avoiding the calendar sub-consciously?

Current status of plans for an Ecco-like folder view?

Submitted by cicerosc on 2009/10/14 16:33
I am relatively new on the forums and I see there has been a lot of discussion in the past about the lack of a "folder view" as in Ecco, but I cannot determine whether this suggestion has been determined to be "impossible" or whether it is still planned for the future.

What I am really looking for is the ability to keep a list of categories along the left side of the screen and to be able to click on those categories to show different views of the data.  I can almost foresee using the properties pane to do that but it doesn't seem to lend itself to that and (I know this is minor) I can't get that view over on the left of the screen so that has the visual appearance of being the controlling entry point to the view.

To illustrate the effect I am trying to achieve, below is a sample screen from the "casemap" software (which seems to operate similarly to Infoqube).  The main thing I am lookin

Neither file or web hyperlinks work.

I am ex ECCO user and I can't get links to work in IQ, they are ignored.
I wanted to set an item as a link to the IQ User Manual so that I did not have to go through Firefox each time.
I used the Item, Hyperlink dialog which pasted the HTML text  in.

IQ recognized the item text as a link (underlined blue with link cursor)  but further than that I could not get. Is there a menu option or icon to execute it as in ECCO?
2-clicking on the item showed that the double-quotes were missing round the URL in the HTML <a href= element.

Items without grids

Submitted by KeithB on 2009/10/13 23:00
I came up with an idea, working on more spring cleaning of my database, to find items that weren't shown in any grids (other than journal, etc).

I made up a "no_grid" grid, and dragged all the (sources) yes/no fields for the grids to it.  I had 35 or so, removed a couple that I knew only had a few items in them, and spaced the columns to get everything to fit on one screen. I'm now going down item by item, and can quickly see which items don't have anything checked.

I'll go back, and use the same technique to work on grid re-assignments.

Big HTML documents in html pane can freeze the program when editing or just viewing

Submitted by Armando on 2009/10/11 17:06
I just pasted some data in the HTML pane -- a column of 2900 words. The program froze completely when I tried to edit the words and I had to close end IQ's process.
It doesn't happen all the time, but often enough to really be annoying..
Any other users with similar experiences ?

HTML pane open automatically?

Submitted by KeithB on 2009/10/10 23:28
1) Is there a way, to have html pane appear from auto-hide mode, besides hovering oven the tab?

2) And would it be feasible to have the html pane appear from auto-hide automatically when you go to an item that has html pane content, (i.e. does not say "empty")?  I thought that would be handy in some of my grids that have a lot of fields.
