Tutorial #1

Reference Developing a Tutorial IQBase for new users. Per Jerome's great start, this is my take on a 1st tutorial -- link to nonexistent node ID 1102 --. I'm considering it "complete".

Grids 1-3 were tested by my 11-year-old, who provided some invaluable feedback.

Observations:

1) it was fun to write, and it helped learn/reinforce some of the things I knew about IQ. (I really know my "enters" and my "ctrl-enters" now!)

2) the child pages in the manual were put in (quickly) for reference.  I used my normal working IQ, rather than start up a stock version.

3) I'm a little burnt out (with tutorial writing, not IQ of course).  Any revisions, feel free to update the zip file and upload it again; the system allows it. Else you can attach a renamed file.

why can't copy paste html preserve format

Submitted by jan_rifkinson on 2009/10/03 08:43

Let's use page www.acorn-online.com/joomla15/index.php for this example

1.  select article area & <CTRL>C
2. open new item dialog <WIN>N
3. paste (or alternative) <WIN>C

vs

1. right click "InfoQube Copy Content"

which gets the format right but includes useless data

Can't copy (ctrl-c) in html pane when MHT content -- and other HTML pane related stuff.

Submitted by Armando on 2009/10/02 21:27
Hi Pierre,

1- ...Can't copy (ctrl-c) in html pane when MHT content is displayed

2- I often encounter a blank HTML pane when there should be something in there... Syncing problems again.

3- You told me that when there's an MHT file linked to an item but no HTML text in the DB anymore (because of the link between files and DB I experienced a few weeks ago), I just had to "save". But I can't save anything. I can just "save as". So all these files remain unsearchable.

So, not major bugs I guess, but important nevertheless.

Export a field (multiple items) to web - loses column formatting

Submitted by Tom on 2009/10/02 11:12
Is this a bug?    (I think it is)

Select the item field of multiple items
Say the items are:

File 1
File 2
File 3
File 4
etc

When you export to web, the result looks like:-

File 1 File 2 File 3 File 4 etc

instead of keeping it's 'column' format.

Also:
the column headings dont come through.

Copying into IQ - performance issues

Submitted by Jon on 2009/10/02 08:12
I have written before about the problems with multi line display. Until this is resolved, I have been pasting  each line into a separate item, then locking the items. For a few reasons, this is not ideal. Pasting as a single item is quite fast. I recently had a paper which contained 140 paragraphs (interpreted as lines - this is fine for me), but the pasting took forever (OK, longer than 10 minutes on a fast dual core machine loaded with memory). The last  time I encountered a program that was unusually sluggish  to perform normal tasks, I bellyached to the developer who improved the performance dramatically (Ultra Recall). With that one exception, I have not encountered a program that performed so poorly and maxed out  the CPU while chugging along. I havve some programs that are either very old (Ecco Pro) or based on very old code (Info Select) which  accomplish this and similar tasks in a heartbeat or two.
