Cannot see next line when editing full page outlines

Submitted by Jon on 2014/06/13 15:00
This has been reported several times, some by me.

Here is the scenario:

1. I have filled a screen with notes.
2. Hit enter key.
3. Next line partially or completely drops off the bottom of the screen (hidden) until I use the mouse to scroll down.
4. Hit enter and repeat.

I am busily working on a project right now and am growing increasingly frustrated by this behavior. Adding to my misery is the "Case of the Missing Cursor." I know the latter is hopefully being addressed in 27. This is too distracting for my workflow right now and is eroding my productivity. Back to Ecco Pro for now.

Image re-size not working in HTML pane (sometimes)

Submitted by WayneK on 2014/06/10 16:03
This is a follow up to my previous post.  This is another problem that doesn't occur every time.

On the Outliner Software forums I'd suggested to Pierre that it would be nice to be able to copy/paste images into the HTML pane.  He quickly added this feature to the next release.  I tested it at that time and confirmed that everything was working correctly, including the ability to re-size images by dragging it by one of the handles at the corners.

Today, when I inserted an image into my HTML pane notes, it would not let me re-size the image.  I closed InfoQube and re-opened it.  I pasted an image again, and this time re-size was working correctly (unfortunately, some of my notes were lost - see previous post).

This is the third minor issue I've found that occurs some times and not others (missing cursor, delete not working in HTML, image re-sizing not working in HTML).

Delete not working in HTML pane (sometimes)

Submitted by WayneK on 2014/06/09 16:52
It appears that the delete command is not working In the HTML pane.  If I place my cursor in the HTML edit window and press "delete" it should start removing spaces one at at time.  It doesn't.  Also, If I select a word and press "Delete", nothing happens.

Spaces and words can only be deleted by backspacing.  Not a big deal but delete and backspace work in slightly different ways and both should be available because one can be more convenient than the other, depending on where your cursor is.

Update:  after not working repeatedly over a several day period, it's suddenly back to working every time.  I don't know why it wasn't working nor why it started working.

Missing cursor when editing items

Submitted by WayneK on 2014/06/05 20:04
When I click on a grid item to start editing, the cursor should appear in the item to mark where the editing will begin.  However, this only happens about 30% of the time.  Most of the time, no cursor appears.  The item is properly selected and I can start editing, but I don't know exactly where I'm at until the letters start appearing in the item.

I've tried over and over again to figure out why the cursor appears sometimes but not others.  I haven't been able to figure out a pattern or anything I'm doing differently to make it work one time and not the next.

Problems with hyperlinks to websites

Submitted by WayneK on 2014/06/05 19:46
I recently systematically worked through the various hyperlink options for websites and it appears that some aren't working, at least on my system.  I'm using Release 26 on a Windows 7, 64 bit system.

1) Firefox addon fails to create a link (Firefox>click on IQ icon).  It creates an item with descriptive text but it's not a working link (ie text is not underlined as it should be for a link).  Oddly, if you double click on the text it opens a new blank window in Firefox but does not take you to the designated website (it shows the Firefox home page).

2) HTML pane:  links are not clickable.  Link only works by Right click>Open link in browser.  Note also that the "Open link
in Browser" can be confusing.  If the link is to a file, it will be opened by the appropriate program, not the browser.

"explorer mode" for navigating outline with arrow keys

Submitted by jimspoon on 2014/06/04 20:13
Would be nice to have an "explorer mode" for navigating an outline with keys - namely:

- left arrow collapses subitems to parent
- right arrow expands parent to show next level of subitems

Right now left and right arrow move between columns.

Maybe the left and right arrow could still move between columns, except in the tree column.  In the tree column, the first press of right arrow might expand an item it has any hidden subitems - the second press of right arrow would move to the next column to the right.  Similarly, first press of left arrow would collapse to parent if any; second press would move to next column left.

New user having trouble with grids

Submitted by WayneK on 2014/06/04 18:18
Hello, everyone. I'm a long-time Ecco Pro user giving InfoQube another try after seeing new posts about it on the Outliner Software Forum.  I've tried it a couple of times in the past but I didn't fare well.  I'm determined this time to give it the effort it deserves.  I've spent probably 30 hours working through the tutorials and forum posts.  I've tried to bite off something I can manage, so I've avoided getting into advanced filtering at this point, and I don't have a big interested in calendars and Gantt charts.  I want to use InofQube to take research notes and perform various filtering and sorting operations.

what's your strategy for using IQ with multiple computers / devices

Submitted by jimspoon on 2014/06/04 14:05
I would like to be able to easily access / edit my infoqube database from any of the computers that I use (e.g. desktop, two different laptops), and really haven't found the right answer yet.  So I'd like to get ideas from other IQ users how they do it.

Ideas:
- run IQ from SD card or USB flash drive and move it to whatever computer you happen to be using.  This is what I'm doing right now, not very convenient.
- put the IQ database in dropbox.  This results in conflicted files if have IQ open on two computers at the same time.
- access IQ database over network and use a VPN when using laptop from remote location.
- run IQ on desktop computer, and control this instance from remote location using remote control / VNC program when using laptop from remote location.
