How do I do a simple search on the current grid?

Submitted by WayneK on 2015/10/13 14:54
All I want to do is find the next occurrence of a word on the current grid.  In most programs you simply use Ctrl-F and repeat until you find the specific occurrence of the word you want.

When I use Ctrl-F (supposedly the "quick search"), it opens a new search grid.  That's not what I want.  I want to stay on the current grid and go directly to the word.  Or better yet, filter the current view so it shows only the items that contain the word.  That would be ideal.  Surely, there's a way to do that

Instead I'm taken to another grid and things only go downhill from there.  I think this is showing the new omnibox.  I spent 15 minutes reading posts on omnibox and still have no idea how to use it or what it's good for.

So now the search grid lists supposed occurrences of my word.  Except my word is nowhere on the page because the search grid does not s

How do I save file to prevent loss of work?

Submitted by WayneK on 2015/10/12 16:36
I'm trying to clean up a file that has lots of unwanted items.  Twice I've gone thru, deleted hundreds of items and all their subitems, only to have InfoQube crash.  When I bring the file back up, all the items I erased have been restored.

No idea why it's crashing but it'd be nice to have a save command to prevent loss of work like this.  I guess I should just be using  "save as" and overwriting the existing file.  Is that the best approach?

Follow up:  I just can't erase items.  Every time I try, IQ crashes partway through the process.  I'm using the latest release (downloaded yesterday).

Follow up-2:  I'm also losing the clean up I did on fields.  I deleted fields quite a few minutes before the crash but those are all being restored, too.  How often does IQ save and why isn't it saving my changes?

Thanks, Wa

Can't change column font color.

Submitted by WayneK on 2015/10/12 15:56
Hello everyone.  I don't know whether this is a bug or user ignorance.  I'm trying to change the font color of a text column.  I've tried the following:

1) Field Properties>  (No font settings here)
2) Column>  (No font settings here)
3) Right click column>Font color on toolbar.

I thought the last one had to be it but after changing the color, my text in the column remained black.  Oddly, if I double click the text to edit, THEN it changes to the selected color, but as soon as I leave the cell, it reverts to black.

I also tried refreshing the grid and restarting IQ but the font still won't change color.

Thanks,
Wayne

IQ is Going Nuts on Me

Submitted by David_H on 2015/10/10 00:32
Very frustrated at the moment.  The Item column keeps disappearing in grids for no reason as far as I can tell.

Another one is I'll be doing something in a grid and the next thing I know one column is stacked on top of another.  See screenshot.  How do I unstack them?

As I just reported in another thread I also now can't find "multi-level column headers" which just two weeks ago I was able to find under Manage Grids.

Also, I select a Grid and it opens, then the screen flashes and it jumps back to the previously open grid.

Grids are also losing their source settings.

Oh, and as I added the disappearing Item column back n that just caused columns to magically stack on their own like in the attached screenshot.  Why that would happen because of adding a column I have no idea.

Safe to Delete Any Field?

Submitted by David_H on 2015/10/09 23:42
It's easier for me to manage IQ if it's not full of fields and grids I don't use and I've been going through and deleting many of them.  Obviously some are protected and cannot be deleted.  I assume anything that can be deleted is safe to delete?  By safe I mean I'm not going to find out somewhere down the line that anything is broke in any serious way or doesn't work with an upgrade because of fields I've deleted?

What concerned me is I deleted a field named InfoQube that I thought I had created at one point.  But now I see a grid names "search" for which that is the source.

Thanks

Column with Pop-Up That Selects a Field

Submitted by David_H on 2015/10/09 22:55
Let's suppose I have 3 grids named:
- Grid 1
- Grid 2
- Grid 3
Let's assume that like most grids that when they were created they automatically created a corresponding yes/no field to use as the source for the grid.

Is there a way to create a column that has a pop-up field that allows me to select one of those grids (yes/no fields)?  The selection would always be mutually exclusive, I only want to select 1 of the 3 in this manner.  This would be much more effective for me in some instances than having (3) separate check-mark columns, especially since the use of these fields is that they are always mutually exclusive.

Thanks

  • New: Tooltips in grids and Properties pane only show when pressing Ctrl only
  • Fixed: If more than 1 item is selected, Item info showed nothing
  • Fixed: Grid: Pop-up list of type fixed list did not save changes correctly if done exclusively with the mouse
