Great potential feature! Lists of equivalent terms

Submitted by markfoley on 2009/06/02 19:05
I believe a 'list of equivalents' or synonym list would be a great thing to consider for InfoQube.

Reason for suggestion
When I am in meetings etc I take many notes (as most people will).  I use varying terms to refer to certain things- for example I'm running a "Transactional Banking" project which is referred to in my notes as "Transactional Banking", "Trans Banking", "TB" or "Banking Transition".

Same goes for references to people.  References to Shane North in quick notes could be: SN, Shane N, S North, Shane North, Shane or even 'Credit Manager'.

Implementation
Pretty simple I'd hope for the benefits it would add.

Basically a listbox, each line containing the 'main title' and a list of the equivalent terms, so one line would look like:

experiment - save file not

I opened my master dB file & entered some data
I manually closed the program to refresh the program
I opened program & latest data entry was missing
I did this 3 x

What forces the save? switch focus to new item, switch focus to new tab? interval? If interval, how long? I have data backups set for 3 min intervals to a different drive.

Google Wave (and IQ?)

Submitted by Pierre_Admin on 2009/05/29 15:42
It is hot off the press, so many of you may not have heard of Google Wave. If it ends up doing what they say (and showed) it should be revolutionary.

It is a long video (80 min!), but you'll be amazed:

Suggestions as to how Wave can help our community and how IQ could integrate with it are most welcomed!

ODBC

How do I connect to the InfoQube database from and external program or script ?

Can you give me the details of the odbc connection string ?

Can I do both read and write operations ?

thanks

highlight filter terms

Submitted by markfoley on 2009/05/29 01:54
Not sure if this has been mentioned before (couldn't see it on forum search) but it'd be cool if the filter/search terms could be highlighted somehow (different background colour)

The only issues we'd need to work through are:

- 'search' exists in a few spots - grid filters, column filters and the search window
- Would probably only work for 'substring' searches eg *example*.  What to highlight when more advanced filters are being used could be tough.

Collection to help defray costs of a new hosting service

Submitted by jan_rifkinson on 2009/05/28 17:53
If Pierre decides that this community should be moved to another service, I don't believe cost should be the impediment.

So I -- for one -- am willing to chip in to help him defray costs for a different hosting service should he want to do so. We are -- after all -- a community & I think it would help streamline the process

Personally, I find this forum waaaay too slow. Sometimes it takes up to 30 secs (or longer) to post a question or reply.  Sometimes the damn thing just hangs.  Maybe you have different experiences. Maybe you are not as impatient as I am.

In any case, I thought I'd raise the issue -- which is actually buried within a different thread -- to see how the group feels about this.

MHT vs HTML

Submitted by jan_rifkinson on 2009/05/28 17:42
I thought I understood the different uses of MHT vs HTML from reading the info available thru the community site. But then I read something about MHT within HTML so now I'm totally thrown.

Can someone direct me to some real simple explanation of these two formats,
their usage, how they work together, etc.

Thanks.
