Sort Issues

Submitted by WayneK on 2018/11/05 11:55
I'd appreciate any advice on getting "sort" to work correctly

1) Column sort

I like using this because it's convenient for rapidly switching between different sorts.  Unfortunately, i can't get it to persist.  The sort order is repeatedly lost and has to be re-applied after hoists, column filters etc.  Maybe this is by design but it'd be nice if a column sort would be maintained until a new sort is applied

2) Incorrect alphabetical sort order.

Reference Paul's comment in [node:4313, title="Adjusting Tag Grid TEXT SIZE can cause Tag List to list [Item Font] instead of [Item]"]

I think it might be a good idea to have the InfoQube documentation downloadable as an InfoQube notebase.  This would also be a good demonstration of the power and versatility of the program.

It would be nice indeed, but IQ does not have that feature built-in and would probably be quite a bit of work...
I created standalone files for each chapter here: InfoQube Documentation: Main Page
Great for "bed-time" or "bus ride" reading

Tags vs Fields -- how do you structure and manage info in IQ?

Submitted by Tom on 2018/11/02 18:40
This was prompted by the new tags -- I'm looking from input from people on how they use tags in IQ -- or how they *imagine* tags could be used in IQ.

For our information management in IQ we have:
hierarchy (including multiple locations)
yes/no fields
fields for text
fields with fixed lists from which we can select one or more relevant entries (and variations on that idea)
etc. etc.
and now we have tags.

I was already feeling unsure how to organise stuff -- and while I find the whole tag thing wonderful, I'm wondering when to use each of the above -- tag or field, hierarchy or tag, etc. etc. Sometimes it's hard to know when to put things in separate grids. Of course there will be learning en route and dead ends (e.g.

Outline Indenting Suggestion

Submitted by WayneK on 2018/11/02 11:13
When I set outline indenting, I'm torn between:

1) Keeping it large enough to make it easy to distinguish subitems from TLIs
2) Avoiding making it so large that it wastes horizontal space

I just noticed that if you increase the indent, the TLI's move over, too.  This decreases the contrast between the levels and wastes horizontal space.

So my suggestion is to keep the TLI's at the far left when indenting is increased.

Caveat: there may be a reason they have to move, and some people may like for the TLI's to move away from the border.  Maybe have a separate indent setting for TLIs and sub-items?

Note to self: another way to increase contrast is to use a color scheme for different levels but I'll have to see if I can do that without interfering with highlighting for empha

Are warnings about Custom ICONS still applicable?

Thinking about embedding some Icons into an IQ field (comes from the idea for a Thumbnail Field discussed elsewhere). Of course, the Icons I'm considering are bigger than the standard 16x16 and need to transport along with the SNDB file (but not inside it). Might as well ask before spending too much time experimenting...

 From the local Users Manual:

Exporting Outlines (Print-ready)

When working on medium, large documents, it is quite useful to break it down in parts, more specifically, in an outline (main chapters, sections, sub-sections, etc)

InfoQube can generate a compound document of all these parts. Using styles, this can be a "Print-ready" document.

To generate the compound document, the steps are as simple as:
  1. Select one or more main items
  2. Edit > Copy > Copy as Outline . (The command can be added to any toolbar)
(or do File > Print-Preview > Outline using Styles)
  3. Set outline export settings
  4. Paste into a rich-text editor, such as MS Word, Wordpress, or an IQ item's Doc pane
  5. Select / Apply a style sheet

[Item #] acting as a hyperlink for external files

Submitted by DragonGem on 2018/10/30 21:48

Not really sure how I feel about this "feature" but it caused me to doubt my sanity for a little while, so might as well open it for discussion.

I was checking to see how well IQ handled the display of animated GIFs (superb as expected) but, every time I clicked on the [Item #] column, my image viewer would pop up. I expanded that column a bit and discovered that the text portion highlighted as a hyperlink while the rest functioned as the standard Grid Row Selector that I had come to expect. Not really a problem now that I understand what is going on, but a little bit unexpected.

The Items were added via Drag & Drop with the settings shown below. The images were added to the Document with [Add HTML] button.
