Reporting situations/bugs crashing IQ v0.9.112 Portable

Submitted by carloscadu on 2019/05/13 18:29
Hi,

I've been using IQ for a couple of weeks.

I'm facing situations/bugs crashing IQ v0.9.112 Portable from rare occurrences to always happening:

a) RARE: Dragging & dropping items between different grids with Ctrl pressed.

b) FEW: Random crashes when I'm not even touching the keyboard/mouse.

InfoQube impression from a researcher: IMPRESSIVE!

Submitted by carloscadu on 2019/05/13 14:04
Hi,
I am a researcher in Applied Social Sciences.
I have been intensively using InfoQube for a couple of weeks.
My impression: InfoQube is IMPRESSIVE!
Despite my short usage time, InfoQube is already starting to fit and interconnect many of my research workflows (based on qualitative and quantitative information/data, and project management).
I am just beginning, but cannot wait to find out where InfoQube can lead me after learning

Collapse symbol '-' not removed from parent in grid when last subitem is deleted or moved elsewhere

Submitted by LeftEccoForIQ on 2019/05/12 16:34
The result is a childless parent with the '-' symbol in the left marging to collapse its non-existant tree. I've observed ths loads of times but it seems somewhat random and I've never been able to reproduce it. Maybe there's something you can check at your end, Pierre?

Paste multiple items overwrites selected item in grid

Submitted by LeftEccoForIQ on 2019/05/10 18:32
Rather a suggestion than a bug report, I guess, or somewhere in between.

When pasting multiple items, e.g. from another grid, the text of the focussed item is overwritten (with the first item pasted?), then the other copied items are added as new items. I think it's very unlikely that's what the user wants in this case. It seems more acceptable when pasting a single item though I'm not sure I really like the overwriting in that case either. This also only happens with regular copy, and not, for example, wilh .xml copy.

show values as fields

Say you have data like this:

Is there a way to display this data as:

Perhaps with a Pivot Table?  (I don't really have a good understanding of them yet).

I suppose the alternative would be to have numeric fields Apples, Bananas, Oranges, but that seems very inefficient profiferation of fields, particularly if there are many fruit types!  It would seem more efficient to be able to use the values in a FruitType field as column headers.

Quick'n'dirty sync of non-Calendar items

Submitted by gregory on 2019/05/04 01:43
Given that IQ already has all the infrastructure necessary to synchronise with Google Calendar: how hard would it be to create a synchronisation between a single grid (sorry, notebook! - but I do prefer grid...) and a simple Google Spreadsheet? This would permit a cheap'n'cheerful sync to Android phones. Very useful for shopping lists, ToDo's and the like.

Converting from WikiTags to the new tags system

Submitted by gregory on 2019/05/03 10:00
Thanks Keith for pointing out this video by Pierre:

And thanks Pierre for making it.

A supplementary question. I have made fairly extensive use of the older WikiTags approach. I can use the approach outlined in the Youtube video to import an edited version of the wikitags which I am currently using into the tags hierarchy. However, I cannot think of an easy way in which to assign tags based on the existing wikitag values of items which I have already tagged using that older system. Has anybody got a good suggestion for me?

Thanks!

Strange behaviour associated with tags - bug or user error?

Submitted by gregory on 2019/05/03 09:51
Hello from Riyadh, for the next month or so. Then back to UK or maybe France...

I have a grid with a Tags column.

When I display the grid, it initially shows the tags for the items. Fairly quickly, the tags column progressively blanks out. If I click in the tags column and refresh using F5, the tags reappear. After a few seconds / minutes, the tags again progressively (regressively!) vanish.

Version 112.q, showing Items from: Current - Filter: isnull([notDone]) and isnull([done]) / Item = ** / = 01/04/2019 -> 01/04/2019 - Sort by: ItemTags

The problem is not related to the sort by ItemTags, since if I remove that, the problem persists.

Suggestions, anyone?

Best wishes,
Mark

UPDATE: This issue is associated, I think, with some auto-update setting.

Text column lists

Submitted by WayneK on 2019/05/02 15:59
I want to create a list of links in a text field with these features:

1) Each link is on its own line
2) Each line shows just the first few letters, with the rest cut off by the column border.
(this minimizes space used but still allows me to recognize what the link is)

I've been unable to create a list with both features.

a) To accomplish #1: Shift-return for new line + word wrap must be on
b) To accomplish #2: Word wrap must be off (if it's on, all the text gets squeezed together to fit in the visible column space)

In other words, is there a way to display a list of items in a text field that remains a list regardless of column width?  Is there
a way to get InfoQube to recognize a shift-return (new line), even when word wrap is off?
