(How do I) Get grid with in-cell email address to not launch email program unless I click the email address itself

Submitted by KeithB on 2010/11/14 12:26
In the grid, when I click ANYWHERE in an item containing an email address, I launch the default email program.
However, an URL within the text launches the way I expect, only when I click on the url itself.

Grid column filter (NOT text box filter) : Filter criteria applies to sub item is ON but... doesn't work. (Read for detail!) (M)

Submitted by Armando on 2010/11/13 17:25
1- In a grid, turn ON "filter criteria applies to subitems".
2- Close the grid and reopen it.
3- Choose a Y/N field-column to which you'll apply a column filter criteria
4- select "non-blank"

You'll see that TLIs will be filtered properly but not SLIs

I have to turn off "Filter criteria applies to sub items", and ON again, and then everything is fine until the next grid close, reopen.

Anybody can confirm ?

ctr + up(/down) arrow(s) : to move focus from parent to parent (as siblings), "jumping" over their subitems ? (M)

Submitted by Armando on 2010/11/13 14:32
ctr + up  arrow  : to move from parent to parent

I think it'd be useful and probably simple to implement. child c --> parent/child b --> parent/child a
Of course the reverse (down arrow)  isn't really possible I guess (parent/child a  -> parent/child b --> child c).

[  Edit  2010 11 16 -- 22 18 : if someone has an intelligent idea for ctrl-down arrow though... It would be nice..
And... I just had another idea , and maybe would that be even more useful :

Ctrl + down/up arrows : skipping from sibling to sibling, jumping over children (there might be another shortcut standard for that action... But I don't know it). Now that would be extremely handy.

Copy web content in same format to HTML? > (M)

Submitted by jan_rifkinson on 2010/11/12 13:32
For example:
the data loses a line between items, thus making it very hard to read or causing user to add lines for easier digestion.
I'm guessing this has something to do w formatting i.e. line + <CR> etc

Does changing HTML Edit to <div> or <paragraph> make a difference here & if so, when would user select one over the other?
I selected all copy in HTML & selected <div> = no change
I selected all copy in HTML & selected <paragraph> = no change

Sorting : the UI

Submitted by Armando on 2010/11/12 01:16
There's been many posts about sorting in the last few days .

The best approach to problem seems to be :

1- Automatic sorting using columns : only when sort bar is ON.

Nothing to add here. This should/would be the default sorting mode for most users

2- automatic sorting using the Sort Text box following these transparent rules

Grid vs HTML pane (and HTML vs MHT)

Submitted by KeithB on 2010/11/11 18:09
I started up a book page -- link to nonexistent node ID 2094 -- for considerations of when to use the grid vs the html, and combinations, including pane vs MHT. I'm presently doing some fall cleanup, and converting many of my smaller html pane notes over to the grid, and will probably convert mht's that don't contain pictures also to the grid.

It has been discussed several times over the years, but is not easy to find on a forum search.

I could use help with links to existing forum discussions, and comments

Column sorting/grouping should probably stick after a grid close/reopen. (M)

Submitted by Armando on 2010/11/11 11:44
Right now Column sorting/grouping stays after a grid refresh, but not after a grid close/reopen.

Maybe should the sorting stick after a close/reopen, like the column filter do. (related thread : Group items by sort column : after a refresh, it stays, but it's messed up. (M))

Will create a Mantis issue if this makes sense.

I like the new "notifications" settings !

Submitted by Armando on 2010/11/11 00:27
I hope all users have updated their profiles ! It makes a big difference to receive e-mail notifications.
For those who missed it, see this post : Good news ! Email Notifications for new content and comments

Ok... It would be nice to not receive notifications for our own posts, but it's easy to filter anyway.

Yippee!!  :-)

P.S. : Pierre, would it be possible to announce that through a simple e-mail sent to all members (or at least those who are the most active...) ? Or maybe post a sticky in "What's New"... But that is probably impossible. In any case, the idea is to inform that the feature now exists.
