Outline Export to Word, HTML, etc

Submitted by Pierre_Admin on 2017/09/15 01:04
Hi IQ Users,

A big missing piece right now is a smart export of outlines to Word and other documents types. This is what I've got so far. Comments ?

Given this outline:
  • Export to Word, HTML, OPML and Markdown
    • The task is to convert an outline to document (Word, OPML, Markdown). Bold is used to identify Headings, so this is text under the heading
    • A sub-item can be converted to either indented text or a bullet list. The question is how to tell it what it should be. Text length ?, A Y/N field ?, Some HTML content ?, 1. or - prefix ?
    • This should be a sub-heading because it is bold
      • If the parent is a heading, then this is regular text (unless it starts with 1.

Working with Icons

Icons can be used in many contexts within InfoQube:
  • Anywhere inside the item text. These will display in just about all InfoQube UIs (Grids, Properties pane, Calendar, Surface, TimeLine, Map View)
  • Anywhere in other text fields (Grids, Properties pane)
  • In Field names (Grids, Properties pane)
  • As part of Outline labels (Grids)
  • In Links (Surface)

1. What Icons are available

  • Icons are loaded from the \Icons folder when InfoQube starts
  • The default setup has 88 icons. There are quite a few free icon sets that can be downloaded. Do not hesitate to be create !
  • To add icons, add image files to that folder. Images must be 16x16 gif files (8-bit color depth or less)

Is calendar integration ever *really* going to happen :-)?

Submitted by David_H on 2017/09/13 15:40
Several months ago the Google sign on capability was released and worked, and it was indicated calendar integration was close and coming in the next release.  But since then it seems all development is on other areas again?  Areas where IQ is already so strong it's like icing on the cake.

It seems like there is no feature request that is more universal or critical to many of us than calendar integration.  For me at least, it's the single (and only serious) limiting factor as I use IQ every day.  Mobile use is a distant second, which is also part of what calendar integration is all about.  Otherwise it's already the most powerful organizer on the planet by a wide margin.  I really hope it happens, I've been waiting for 5 years :-), it seemed we were so close....:-)

Scrolling in cusomization dialogue

Submitted by Jon on 2017/09/13 10:50
1. Open the customization dialogue.

2. Go to the Commands tab.

3. Choose a category that has enough commands to require scrolling. For example, choose All Commands.

4. Dragging the scrollbar or clicking on the up/down icons of the scrollbar produces undesirable behavior (continuous scrolling). It is difficult to make a selection.

I am using 103 portable.

Equation bug

Submitted by WayneK on 2017/09/10 18:16
This is a follow up to my thread on copying text from one column to another.  I proceeded as follows:

1) Selected multiple items
2) Pasted into properties pane item field: =[Narr-1]
3) Right-clicked on properties pane item> parse equation

Most of the items were correctly copied but 20-30% were not.  Item cell displayed the equation instead of copied text.  I tried running "parse equation" again and also deleted the equation and typed it in again.  Nothing worked.  Any cell that didn't work the first time didn't work no matter what I tried.  Couldn't see any pattern to the failures.

Example: first item failed; second item worked correctly.

Start edit on a single click on text bug

Submitted by Armando on 2017/09/10 17:37
Hi,

Steps:

1- Options dialog : Start edit on a single click : set up to be text.

2- Set a text field/column to be the first field in a "grouped column" configuration (e.g. the item field in the screenshot below)

3- Single click in that column/field's cells won't trigger edit mode:  need to double click to enter edit mode.

set UI options (what grids are open, etc). through a /Layout command-line switch?

Submitted by jimspoon on 2017/09/10 05:16
I was wondering whether it would be possible to start up an IQ instance with a very spartan set of UI elements, e.g. perhaps only one grid open for making a new quick outline, and most UI elements hidden for a very uncluttered look.  I am wondering whether this can be done through loading IQ with a specific "layout".

I am wondering what is included in the concept of an IQ "layout" - it seems to focus on the location of panes and their docked/undocked status.  Does a "layout file" also specify what grids are loaded?  What toolbars are shown?

Copy/paste between columns

Submitted by WayneK on 2017/09/09 00:42
I posted some time back about this problem.  I need to move a massive amount of text from one column to another (from the narr-1 column to the item column).  I've found no easy way to do this.

Pierre suggested using this formula: =[narr-1].  When I pasted the formula into an item cell, it automatically copied the text from the narr-1 column.  For some reason, I can't get it to work now.  Is there some setting that has to be active for this to work?  I can't find the original thread nor more notes on the problem (grrr).

Even with a working formula this is an enormous task.  It would be so much easier if I could copy/paste like you can in Excel:  select x number of vertical cells, then select the same x number of cells in the other column, and paste.  Each block of text goes into the corresponding cell.  Doesn't work like that in InfoQube.
