Need tips on searching

Submitted by WayneK on 2016/10/16 11:32
Hello,

Could some of the vets offer some advice on using search?  I'm still finding it awkward and unintuitive even after reading the help file again.  Here are a couple of questions but any additional advice on using search would be appreciated.

1) How do I edit an item shown in the search list?  In Ecco Pro search result items can be edited like any other.  In my omnibox search results, selecting an item selects the whole row but you can't edit any fields.

Excessive Delay When Opening New HTML Window

Submitted by David_H on 2016/10/15 03:09
View > HTML Editor > New HTML Editor often takes as long as 5 seconds to open the new window.  Is there anything that can be done to speed that up?

Also, it's a small thing, but wouldn't the verbiage "open HTML editor" be better?  "New" usually suggests the user is creating something new, whereas in this instance the user is probably usually just trying to "open in new window".

Thanks

You can use the FireFox extension Scrapbook with IQ. This is really convenient to grab pages behind logins (such as GMail). To do so:

Initial Setup:
  1. Scrapbook > Tools > Options > Organize > Enable multi-scrapbook: checked
  2. Scrapbook > Multi-Scrapbook > Manage > Add: Add your IQBase .SNDB..files folder.

Plain text document type in HTML pane ?

Submitted by Pierre_Admin on 2016/10/13 15:10
Hi IQ Users,

I've been meaning to add plain text support to the HTML pane. Would you find this useful ?

At the same time, I could add MarkDown (and other "light" markup syntaxes). In Browse mode, the HTML version of the markup would be shown. Interested ?

Notes on Dropbox sync

Submitted by Tom on 2016/10/09 16:11
Setup sync for two files today -- I had some problems with both, but didnt have time to figure out exactly what was happening-

I had problems with adding the *.sndb.files folder:
in both cases, I added the equivalent of "Dropbox\IQBases\MyIQBase1.SNDB.Files"
=>
in both cases, the path got changed to "Dropbox\IQBases\MyIQBase1.SNDB.Files\MyIQBase1.SNDB.Files"

Database #1: I had already moved the relevant folder
Database #2: I had already created the folder as it didnt exist

DB #1: I thought I had browsed to the folder in DB #1, but not 100% sure of that
DB #2: I browsed to folder on machine #2, but could not click OK on the dialogue (Win.7), so I added the path to options.

I dont (and wont) have time to experiment with this to see what exactly the problem is --

Using MHT Documents

  • MHT can save images and style sheets from web pages locally as files (or as part of the database)
  • MHT cannot be edited within the Doc pane, but can be edited with MS Word or other editors, such as Blocknote and WizHtmlEditor
  • As shown, "Edit with MSWord" is being used on ItemID10534.MHT, with the content now editable in the Word program
  • After editing and saving in the external editor, the Doc pane will refresh to show the edited content
  • MHT, mhtml and EML are identical file formats, some browsers / devices do not read MHT and EML files however, so it is best to use the .mhtml extension
  • In Android, free app MhtViewer allows Chrome to view MHT files (but not EML).

Status Bar to display number of parents as a link which should open ALL parents in new scratch grid

Submitted by ethanrox on 2016/10/03 11:24
I would greatly appreciate such a feature.

As of now it is rather difficult to gain an overview (with context) of all the places an item might belong to.
In the properties pane, only the immediate parent is displayed, which is sometimes not enough to comprehend quickly the dependencies.

I hope it wouldn't be too difficult to implement.

There is alternative way now to open the item in MapView, but this one would be quicker and more convenient for most users (I know I am still to make more use of MapView)

"Show grid in the properties pane"

Submitted by DavidF on 2016/10/01 13:18
hi,

in Grid Options you can specify that the grid appear in the properties pane. Couple of things on this I'm not sure about. a) why are "Item" and "Notes" the only two fields that appear in the grid, even when there are other fields in the grid? b) If you check this option the grid will appear in the properties pane even when you're viewing other grids. Is there any signficance to this? Eg if I specify that Grid A appear in the properties pane, and then go to Grid B, in the properties pane I will again see, under "Grids", the fields for Grid A. But again, only Item and Notes. And what they actually show is content for Item and Notes in Grid B, not for Grid A.

Is the idea that you have another possible way of viewing a grid's fields, but as part of Properties, ie in an item-by-item kind of way rather than columns?
