Simplifying copy/paste

I think that it was pretty recently that the copy/paste operation got more complicated.

Before, I could copy website text and instantly paste it in InfoQube.  Now, I often have to pick between HTML and other options when I paste.

Of course, as soon as I start this post, it stops doing that and every copy/paste I try now simply pastes he text, which is what I want.

Seems to go thru cycles where it happens all the time then it stops then starts up again.

Could someone explain what controls this and how I can avoid it's recurrence?

InfoQube for Beginners: Making a grid with columns

Hello and welcome! Are you interested in learning how to use InfoQube to manage tables of information?  This guide is written to help you get up and running creating a grid that contains different fields displayed as columns.

System Fields

System Fields have special properties, and  have IDs less than 100.
They are shown in with a grey background in the properties pane and in Field Management.
These fields are protected fields.

double-click Item field to go to page in URL field?

Submitted by jimspoon on 2021/03/29 15:37

Somehow I had the idea that if you had a URL in the URL field, double-clicking the item (specifically the Item field) would take you to to that URL.  But when I do so, the Item field is activated for editing, and the URL is not loaded in the browser.  Do I need to click an actual (blue-underined) hyperlink in a field?

URL Hyperlinks

Hi Pierre,

When using the Hyperlink command (right-click menu or Ctlr+K) to add hyperlinks to my URL field/column in grids, I've figured out they don't work because the file name is duplicated in the hyperlink, so when I delete the duplicate + other extraneous stuff in the hyperlink, Presto, it works.   For instance see below, I've struck thru - to illustrate what I deleted - the duplicated file name and the extraneous stuff, and now the hyperlink works, first time everytime.

InfoQube for Beginners: Making a grid with columns is the next one planned by Cyganet, with collaboration/peer review by at least KeithB and Mark David and anyone else.

This is a test to see how a child page looks like in the test book site, then Cyganet can create the working page for his tutorial

Portable user settings directory

I share my portable IQ version via Dropbox between my home laptop and desktop, as well as my work laptop.  However, my username is different on each of these, so my user settings go into separate folders.  Would it be possible to add a command line option to override the name used for the settings directory so I could have the same directory for user settings in all environments?

Problem with "Notes" field

Submitted by DavidF on 2021/03/26 17:08

I was going to post this as a bug, but it only seems to affect one of my databases, so there's maybe something database-specific going on... In this one database, any text you enter in the Notes field vanishes, if you press F5.

Is Notes just a regular text field? It looks like it is, but it is one of the built-in fields, and it seems "different" in that you can't check on what items have values for it, as you can for other fields. Also, you can't use it as a source for a grid.

"Create Forum topic"

Submitted by DavidF on 2021/03/26 16:31

hi Pierre,

This is maybe just me and my inattention - but I think it might be better if when you create a forum topic, it defaulted to the current forum, rather than "General Discussions". I've had to check myself a few times from nearly posting something there, rather than wherever I meant it to go (e.g. "Site Suggestions"... ). The old site was clearer in that regard - you were in, say, the Bugs forum, and it was clear that anything you posted was going into the Bugs forum too.

Problem when using Clipper and several databases are open

If you are clipping something from the Web (or wherever), and more than one database is open, selecting as destination any other database than the first one in the list will result in a blank clip: i.e. the "content" section of the clipper is empty.

I should note that this is not 100% consistent. On one occasion I found the behaviour described above did not occur. But it practically always does.
