Vanishing HTML

Submitted by DavidF on 2016/11/20 14:48
hi

it seems if you enter some text in the HTML Pane, and then load another layout, the text vanishes.

After this had happened to me twice, I twigged that you have to save the HTML Pane before you change the layout; otherwise you lose it all.

I guess if this is a known thing it may technically not be a bug. But it is really, really annoying! There is nowhere else in IQ that I can think of where you have to actually save your HTML - just here. Which makes it very very hard to remember to do. (I hope after it has lost me a fair bit of work twice now that I will remember it!)

Anyone Used Google Drive to Sync IQ?

Submitted by David_H on 2016/11/20 00:03
Has anyone successfully synced IQ across computers using Google Drive?  I have a paid Google account with tons of storage so I'd prefer to use that.  I'd think it should work fine, but you never know with sync services, I've used many of them over the years, and they can be finicky and buggy about what files they sync and how.

Thanks

More Dupe Problems

Submitted by WayneK on 2016/11/19 19:49
This is a follow up to the previous thread on duplicate items randomly appearing after applying filters.  I updated to 98.6b and repaired the database but the problem continues.

Now there's a new wrinkle: instead of merging, a dupe set disappeared from the grid and I can't get it back.  I found it in the scratch grid, and it's still assigned to the grid source, but it will not show up in the grid.  I tried assigning it to other grids, and it won't appear there either.   How can I get this item to appear in the grids it's assigned to?

Am I the only one experiencing this problem?

Edit:  I thought I could use the "Shown In" column and "Item Info" to see which grids an item is assigned to, but it appears this only works for TLI's.

Database corruption/rebuilding

Submitted by DavidF on 2016/11/19 14:17
hi,

I was going to post this in the Bugs forum but it clearly isn't really a bug as it is something that has gone wrong with a particular database. I'm putting it here as it relates to what is probably my main worry in my IQ usage - if there's a bug it will get fixed in the next version, but a corrupt database may be something I am stuck with. And even if Rebuild/Repair works I'd rather not have to keep on creating new versions. This is two or three times now I've had to recreate or copy a database in order to solve a problem or make the database usable. I'll confess, it worries me. Has anyone else had to go through this kind of routine to get a database working again?

Anyway, for what it's worth, here is how the problem manifested itself:
  • Text fields, with properties: auto-list of values, multi-select.
  • Checked values don't "stick".

Delimited Text files (Excel, Access, Outlook, etc.)

Many applications including Excel and Access, can export data as text files. Two most common formats are:
  • Comma separated values, or CSV
  • Tab-delimited
InfoQube can import these formats. To import, do File > Import from > Non-Hierarchical Data

In this sample, we'll import an IQ language file. The easiest way to nicely view this data, is to create a new grid:
  1. View > Grids > New grid
  2. We'll give it the name IQStrings
  3. Click OK.
  4. The new grid is created and opened
  5. A new yes/no field, called IQStrings, is also created, to hold the data we'll enter in this grid

Size of Pop-Up Window + Field Suggestion

Submitted by David_H on 2016/11/18 11:20
Is it possible to have IQ remember the size of the pop-up window?  I'd like to use the new sync pop-up list to field feature for tagging, but with hundreds of fields/tags, I'd like to be able to have a large pop-up window to easily move through tags.

In the field properties pane, it would also be nice if the values for pop-up could be a larger window.  It's very hard to manage a lot of values in the current small window.

Thank You

Fields' "fixed list popup" : can't type directly in it to replace data

Submitted by Armando on 2016/11/18 09:36
(ok, last bug post for today ... : ) )

I used to be able to just type in a "fixed list popup" (typing the right stuff, of course) where there's already data, but a while ago that became impossible. I have to press F2 or paste in it to be able to replace the data.

E.g. if I press B in a field where there's already an A, B won't be recorded.
