Copy / Paste Dialog Simplification (M)

Submitted by Tom on 2011/05/19 05:46

Prompted by Dave's frustration with copy in IQ (www.sqlnotes.net/drupal5/index.php) I thought to try and simplify the copy dialog would be helpful.

So, here goes (again): my suggestions, (keep in mind that I'm not 100% sure of some of them myself)

1) simplify all the text as much as possible
2) change the order in the copy dialog - move the options for copy within IQ to top of the list.
3) combine the paste dialogues (Top level and sub-item) - I think people would expect the item to be pasted as a sibling to the currently selected item [or simply pasted at top-level if nothing is selected], so I don't see any need for two dialogues.
4) each dialogue box would simply have "Copy" or Paste" in the

How do I select non contiguous items (full item selection + ctrl-click) and then select only a few columns (not the whole grid)?

I'm just not able to do that. Is it possible to achieve directly ?
The obvious work around is to hoist items and then select the needed columns. But it does feel a bit like a workaround.
(I think we talked about that a while ago, but can't find the discussion)

Smart Folders/Fields (Query Equations) - discussion and doc change suggestions

Submitted by reesd on 2011/05/17 21:50
So I spent the evening trying to figure out "smart folders" (see Smart Fields), which I will call Query Equations for the rest of this post.

I'll start on the doc itself, it started as a blog post and I think it's time to update it :). I think we need to rework this page in the context of the equations pages and equations in general. Also, some of it duplicates concepts that are now covered better elsewhere like field/folders, grids, and wikitags, Also, many of the examples I think are better (or at least more easily) done as row equations, so I think we need to be clear why they would go the next level to use these.

In terms of terminology, smart folder/field now overlaps too much with all the other equations. Perhaps we could call these "Query Equations" to just ensure they are grouped with all the other ways that fields can get their values?

Cloning Problem? (M)

When cloning goals from a Project grid to a Goals grid I get unexpected results.

  1. I get one result before a refresh and a different result after the refresh. Is this normal? (Answer turned out to be NO. So, I reported this in Mantis. Ref: http://mantis.sqlnotes.net/view.php?id=1126)
  2. After the refresh a comparison between InfoQube and ECCO is different. Is this normal? (Answer turned out to be YES)

Sorry for wandering mouse in the video. I don't know why that is happening. I did not record it that way.

Having trouble with 2.05 Your First Steps tutorial

After making the above video and uploading it, I went back to IQ and looked at a sample database. In that database, I saw that there is a Done field and a Urgency field. So I added those fields to my database, and now I can mark things as Done okay. So it looks like the tutorial is going to have to show adding those fields if a blank database is used in the tutorial.
