Hoist, with an IQ twist...

Submitted by Pierre_Admin on 2009/10/28 22:17
Good news IQ users,

Hoist is coming to IQWorld... with a twist (what did you expect... )

Hoist is a feature where one can focus on a branch of a tree, and toggle back to the full tree. IQ has many outline trees (1 per grid), so it is already easier to work than many other apps with a single outline tree. Users could simulate Hoisting in a number of ways (using item tagging for example), but it was cumbersome.

I've now completed a full-featured hoisting system for IQ. As expected, users can now:
  • Select an item (i.e. a branch) and do a Hoisting. The display will filter to show only that branch
  • If already Hoisting, you can Hoist even deeper in the tree
  • Grid>>Hoist will restore the full grid display
The IQ twist is as follows:
  1. You can select multiple items to Hoist.

Problems with embedded flash files

Submitted by Tom on 2009/10/27 10:41
As you probably know, a lot of people (all people?) are having problems viewing embedded flash files

I made a few minor edit's on this page: Drag-and-drop and other common UI operations and afterwards the flash file was gone
In edit mode, when I right-click the flash "f" and select properties a window shows - same as the one used when you embedding images - the link is shown as "about:blank" which loooks like the link to the original file is broken -
Are they embedded in the same way as images ?

If there's other examples of flash files in the site (working or not) could you post the links here, thanks -  I'll add them here, that will make it much easier to check them

Copy Paste queries (or is it a bug?)

Submitted by Tom on 2009/10/27 06:38
I rarely use copy - am I misunderstanding or is this a bug?
I simply want to copy (or duplicate) an item within the same grid

[edit] I should clarify - I'm copying a sub-item, creating a new sub-item & trying to paste into the new (sub) item [/edit]

Select an item
Ctrl+C
Select "Selected Items, XML format"
Create new item (Select it)
Paste - nothing happens
-
Okay - what happens is that a new parentless item is created but it doesnt show in the grid as it doesnt meet source
Is this expected behaviour?

Back to my desired effect -
How do I simply copy (or duplicate) an item ?

Automatic field data assignment/deassignment : 2 important bugs (reminder...)

Submitted by Armando on 2009/10/26 15:41
Hi Pierre. The first one isn't in Mantis I believe (can add it if confirmed). The other one is.

1- "Can delete on item move" for inheritance doesn't work anymore. I rely on that function a lot. The bug makes all item displacement potentially disruptive in one way or another.

2- "Auto assign the following fields" ("manage grids" dialog) : doesn't work when drag/drop item from one grid to another (Mantis 777). This also can make a mess of a DB, depending on the user set up.

I think there was another important one, in relation to fields and data (auto)assignment.... but can't remember at the moment, unfortunately.

another clipping issue bump

Formatting

Today I was clipping a bunch of articles for research for an article I'm writing.

I selected the data from each article & used context menu command "infoqube copy content"
I did not save each article separately,  electing instead to gather them all in one place
IQ separated each article  correctly but

I noticed that -- for example -- there was no spacing between paragraphs so
before saving I separated the paragraphs w a <return>
Then I saved & looked at the item within IQ.
There I saw double spacing between paragraphs so

As a test I went back & clipped the same articles in the same way.
This time I did not insert a line between paragraphs even tho the paragraphs ran together
I saved the item & looked @ this item within IQ
The spacing between pa

Does this path look familiar: Sauvegardes\Program Source\Bureautique ??

Submitted by Tom on 2009/10/25 11:54

I came across this by accident on my USB stick
D:\Sauvegardes\Program Source\Bureautique

I'm wondering could this have anything to do with IQ - it's a very wild guess but the fact it's in french and has a folder 'Program Source' made me think of the only french speaking programmer I know... I looked it up and Sauvegardes is backup for all <you other non-French speakers!

Resuming work...

Hello all IQ users,

For the last 2 weeks or so, development was pretty much halted. I recently purchased an appartment which I planned to rent to tourist and IQ users (see Combo offer: Visit Montreal and get InfoQube one-on-one training). This rental unit is now fully operational and my first clients just arrived and seem thrilled by it.

If all goes well, this, and the IQ donations (thanks to all that have contributed!) will provide a steady income, needed to pursue IQ development and one day, soon I hope, get to rev 1.0

Thanks for your patience and expect work to resume on Monday (I'm taking the week-end off...

Made a few little changes to the structure...

Submitted by Armando on 2009/10/23 11:45
I made a few little changes to the fields management dialog section in the user manual. I don't know if it's going to be to everyone's taste, but I thought there were too many related juxtaposed subjects. Anyway, I just thought that the info needed to be grouped a bit more.

The numbering is not great but I know this can be redone when appropriate...

I left the section about "smart folder etc." as a "level 2" item, but I don't really think it belongs there. It belongs either under the "option" section (although there's already some basic material there), or in another section that would be about "advanced field usage", or something like that.

Uses of "Default Value" (in Field Management Dialog - General) ?

Submitted by Tom on 2009/10/22 16:04

Field Management Dialog > General > Default Value
# 18 on page -- link to nonexistent node ID 1069 --

I quote from that page:
  • Enter the value of equation to use as the default field value. These are used when InfoQube needs to assign a field value (such as creating an item in a grid), or when users use one of the following shortcuts: double-click or ALT-click.

I know this can also be used to make a date field just date (no time) by adding  =int(now())
I couldnt find any other info about this "Default Value" - could anyone elaborate &/or explain as I dont understand the text above

Thanks :-)
