harmless buglet - Alt+Left in Fields tree moves top level field still further left

Submitted by jimspoon on 2019/04/11 17:47
With the Properties Pane field list in Tree mode, highlight a top-level field and press Alt+Left.  The field moves to the bottom of the field list and still farther left than the "top level" fields.  Then it will not respond to Alt+Right to move back into the field tree.  Can be fixed by setting field list to Flat mode and then back to Tree mode.

Export to other Outliners

When copying one or more items, InfoQube puts a number of different formats in the clipboard:
  1. Tab-Indented Outline
  2. XML
  3. OPML
  4. HTML

These clipboard format are text-based but are not all are supported by other applications.
To convert them to a standard text format, use this free clipboard viewer utility: InsideClipboard:

The steps are:
  1. Select items
  2. Edit > Copy or Edit > Copy > Copy Special
  3. Open InsideClipboard
  4. Select a clipboard format. The text content will appear in the lower pane
  5. Select and copy the lower pane content (Select All context menu)
  6. Paste in the application
  7. If the application prefers importing through a file, open Notepad and paste the text into it. Save that file and proceed with file import

IQ as bibliographic manager

Submitted by bluszczokrzew on 2019/04/08 19:49
Hello everybody,
I'm new to IQ and to the forum. I've played with the app a little, but I am still a newbie.
I want to turn IQ into a bibliographical manager. Has anyone tried it already? I have some ideas how the database should look like, but I've encountered some problems.

1. I guess, that the basic items should be: books, articles, authors. What to do if the book has two or more authors?
2. I want to have a possibility to order the authors alphabetically. Should I have separate fields for a name and a surname, follow the convention, that field "name" is written in form: "Doe, John", or is it possible to order items by the last word in the field (Joe Doe).
3. Has anyone tried to import something from Goodreads or Mendeley? I know someone has tried Zotero.

field editor popup lists - keyboard navigation question

Submitted by jimspoon on 2019/04/08 02:12
I was experimenting with using the keyboard to set values of text fields with popup list editors.  I found that the first press of F2 activates the field for editing, and the second press of F2 pops up the popup list.  Very good.

Withing the popup list, each press of the Tab key moves the highlight as follows:

List of Values -> OK button -> Cancel button -> ???

Text Field - List of Values Popup options - Filtered Generic Field - use?

I have a question about the use of the following "filtered generic field" option for using a popup list to select the value of a text field:

I'm trying to understand what advantage or use this method offers.  Maybe it's that you can select from multiple values that match a particular value in the filter list?  For example, using the example above, say there are multiple items where the value for the "ActionOnList" field is "A".  Then when choosing a value for the text field, the pop up value would present all the Item field values for any of the items that have the value "A" in the ActionOnList field.

create new item with Enter key - from field other than Item

Submitted by jimspoon on 2019/04/07 13:07
I have Tools > Options > Grids > "While editing, Enter creates a new item" set to YES.

Just experimenting, I discovered that the Enter key creates a new item only if I press Enter while the cursor is in the Item field.

If I press Enter while editing in any other text field, no new item is created.  The grid goes back to navigation mode and the same cell remains selected.

Is this by design?  If so, I understand.

But then if I am in another cell besides the Item field, how can I create a new item at the bottom of the grid and advance to it, using the keyboard?  Arrow key won't do it, Enter key won't do it, Ctrl+N opens the New Item dialog.  So do I have to move back to the Item field before I press Enter?  I also tried Shift+Enter and Ctrl+Enter, no joy.

native column subsets

Another idea that might be useful for working with grids with many columns.

It might be useful to be able to define subsets of a grid's native columns and to be able to switch rapidly between the subsets.

Currently the Column > Column Sets menu allows us to switch between the native column set, the columns of any form, and the columns of another grid.

Now we could define a subset of native columns as a form or as another grid, and that way it would appear in the Column > Column Sets menu, but then it would be mixed in with the other forms and grids lin the list.

A "Native Columns Subset" section would fit neatly under the "Native Column Set" choice in the Columns > Column Sets menu.

Or maybe it would be better to just have a Native Column Sets button on the Column Header line - clicking the button would togg
