InfoQube Program Install and Set-up

InfoQube (IQ) comes in 2 flavors:
  1. Installable (Win XP and up, Mac, Linux in Windows emulation)
  2. Portable (Win XP and up)
The portable flavor is identical to the installable one, not a scaled down / limited one. It works in even the most secured / locked down work environments / Internet cafés.
It can run from a USB drive, does not write to the registry or to any local file. It leaves absolutely no traces behind.

The portable flavor is in fact more immune to PC setup, so it will, in some cases, work correctly when the installable will not. These cases are rare though and both flavors generally work correctly.

Surface

I have been looking at the 'Surface', it is OK but it could be a lot better.

Sorry to drop this on you Pierre when you already have more than too much to do. These are just observations.

I have one or two observations which might improve things.

Firstly the map should be re-drawn so that the item with the focus is at the centre of the map and you should be able to navigate around the map by using the arrow keys.

Secondly if items are dragged so that they are no longer touching each other then the links between them should always be drawn on the pane.

I am not a programmer but it seems to me that one could learn a lot from looking at how Gephi ( https://gephi.org/ ) draws it's maps. It uses an open source mapping package called GraphViz ( https://graphviz.org/ ) which may be used in other programs.

Potential Conflicts with multiple detached Document Panes

Just discovered the BROWSE Mode button in the Editor!! That makes some of this discussion somewhat MOOT! Should have known that Pierre wouldn't miss something so obvious.

There are still a few situations where a single Document can have multiple Active Editors as described below and the danger of losing edits still exists. But Browse Mode makes things  much easier to handle. I would like an OPTION setting (General or Database-specific) where Editors are ALWAYS initialized to Browse Mode. There should also be a way of setting Shortcut Keys for Browse Mode and Lock-To-Item; I looked but couldn't find those commands in [Tools] [Keyboard Shortcuts] [Customize].

The problem with IQ locking up when attempting to DRAG an embedded Editor OUT of a free-floating window is also very real. There should be mechanism to DETACH Editors more easily.

Field Properties Editor hijacks FOCUS away from the main IQ window.

I'm not sure whether this is actually a Bug or a Feature that is "Working As Intended" or maybe "That's Life Buddy, Deal with it."

I really like that I can keep the Field Properties Editor open while still interacting with my standard Data Grids. This feature is extremely useful when creating and organizing multiple new fields and when fine-tuning SQL queries and Auto-assignment Rules. Unfortunately, the Editor window frequently hijacks FOCUS away from the main IQ window. The result is that you can no longer move Grid Columns around or use cursor keys or F2 while editing grid data, etc.

First run on installation different from subsequent runs !

When installing a new iteration of InfoQube, when you get to the final dialog box there is a checkbox which says 'Launch InfoQube'.  If you leave this box checked then InfoQube is run when you quit the installation procedure.

When run in this way the graphics are pin sharp and much clearer.  When you run it from the desktop the graphics although somewhat sharp are less sharp than on that first run.

It is not the first time it is run.  If you uncheck the box and finish the installation procedure without running InfoQube then the first run after installation is less sharp.  There is something different about being run from the installation procedure.

To put this in perspective I have a laptop with a very high DPI screen.

Below are two copies of the same section of screen the first is from a normal run of InfoQube, the second is from the run when v109g was i

HTML Pane Settings

Edit: I'm going to attempt to learn to modify the HTML pane again. Once I do so, how do I stop my changes from being overwritten?

Thank You
