dynamic and static hyperlinks - how they differ and how they work

Submitted by jimspoon on 2018/08/19 22:35
Took me a while to figure this out, but I think I have it -

If you insert a Dynamic Hyperlink into the Item field, the hyperlink HREF attribute is in the form of "href=[FileFullName]".  Single-clicking the link will take you to the file referenced in the FileFullName field (which is a concatenation of the FilePath and FileName fields).

using same iq db from two computers on network - columns added to grid on one computer aren't shown in grid on other computer

Submitted by jimspoon on 2018/08/16 19:52
I opened a iq db on my desktop, and then opened the same iq db on the laptop, over a network connection.

Working on the desktop, I added some columns to a grid.  Then, working on the laptop, I refreshed the same grid to get the new columns to show.  The new grid columns were not displayed on the laptop.

I tried closing and reopening the grid, both on the desktop and laptop.  Then I tried shutting down and restarting IQ, both on desktop and laptop.  Still the grid on the laptop does not display the columns I added to the grid on the desktop.

However, the values I put into the new columns on the desktop, did show up on the laptop, in Properties Pane > Item Info > Values.

Shouldn't the new columns display on the laptop after I refresh the grid?

Thanks for any help.

Easier Resizing of Images in Doc Pane?

Submitted by Tom on 2018/08/14 09:34
I send images per email to my IQbase from my phone -- what with the high resolution of phones these days, the image is too large in the Doc Pane.

Would really love fit image to pane, but realise this likely not possible as it's not a viewer but can also have text -- although possibly related: IIRC Opera (I think) years ago had a zoom that didnt affect images (I'd need the reverse).

Currently images are resized by going to the bottom right corner:
this involves cumbersome use of the scrolling bars via mouse; then clicking corner of image and dragging -- holding shift to keep correct proportions --
this is a very jerky and jumpy process, which often requires a few attempts.

I would love an alternative e.g.
right-click image > show @ 25% 50% 75%
or a zoom that only affects images (yes, I realise this likely impossib

Forms sorting, expanding/collapsing. How to handle large numbers of forms.

Submitted by KeithB on 2018/08/13 21:17
I now have dozens of forms now in use, Here are some  suggestions to help deal with larger numbers of forms:

Manage forms:
 1) I'd like some way to sort by grid names. Wtih large numbers of forms, Alt_Up/Down is a lot of work.

Forms in the properties pane:
 1) I'd like some way to collapse all forms,  perhaps with an icon or checkbox at the Forms...

Tag Search

Mostly when I want to find an item I have a good idea about the Tags I have given to that item.   (WikiTags ought to just be called Tags)

I use Tags a lot to classify items.  Yes I can use Find (Ctrl+Shift+F) to find items which have the tags I want but there is a lot of messing about.  Selecting the WikiTag field (which is at the very bottom) and then typing in the tags I want to find.  A user interface tip is that selecting from a list is far quicker and easier than typing.

The hierarchical tagging system I put together is very useful but it has the limitation that I can only select for one tag at a time.

I think about 95% of the search requirements I have could be fulfilled with a simple AND of two or more tags (this AND that AND the other).

It would be nice to just be able to click on a tag and get all the articles with that tag BUT then

A touch of Style

Submitted by Paul_J_Miller on 2018/08/09 16:05

I am a very visual person and like to see my notes well formatted but I don't like messing about with the formatting.  Having to think about the fonts and the sizes and the colours of things is tiresome and detracts from concentrating on the subject of the note.

Fortunately InfoQube amongst others has 'styles', you can say "this is a heading" or "this is a standard paragraph" without having to think about the formatting because you already sorted that out so you don't have to do it every time.

Because I use it quite a lot it would be nicer if the style drop down was on the top level instead of being a drop down inside another drop down but unfortunately that is one aspect of InfoQube which cannot be reconfigured.
