Sorting that ignores initial word(s)

Submitted by WayneK on 2018/06/09 12:36
I'd appreciate input on how others handle sorting book titles.

Option #1: Enter full book titles.

Pros: simple and obvious

Cons:
a) many books clumped together at "The" and "A" (not necessarily a problem but see "b")
b) when I manually scan for a book title, I find myself looking for the first major word in the title, not "the" or "a"
c) some books end up in weird places (eg books that begin with "...")

Option #2: Skip initial "the", "a" etc

Pros: fixes cons of option #1

Mass entry of fields

Submitted by Jon on 2018/06/08 13:24
Using 108a.

I need to enter the same information in a field across many items. In this case, the field is a drop down. In the past I would highlight the rows and in the properties pane, select the choice from the dropdown list. The fields would then be populated by my choice.

This does not work for me anymore. Only one field is populated (the last one selected).

Originally I thought it was because I was attempting to do this in the search grid, but no. It does this in all grids in which the items appear. The fields have to be filled individually.

What am I doing wrong?

how i got the universal clipper to work

Submitted by jimspoon on 2018/06/03 14:38
I figured out what was going wrong with the universal clipper.  If I highlighted some text on a web page, and then pressed the universal clipper hotkey, the highlighted text would not be clipped; instead IQ would only add the clipping info at the bottom to what was ALREADY on the clipboard, and placed this in the HTML box of the Clipping To dialog.

So this is what I've got to do ... I press Ctrl+C to replace the clipboard contents first, and THEN I press the universal clipper hotkey.  That produces the desired results.

"OVR", "Overstrike" and "Overwrite"

Submitted by eu on 2018/06/01 20:26
In the Manual, "OVR" sometimes is defined as "Overstrike" (Editing Items), and sometimes as "Overwrite" (9. Status Bar), which makes the search difficult.

Also, I suggest, in the Status bar page, adding a small description of what "Overwrite" does, or a link to the "Editing items" page, where this description can be found, because, usually, the user goes to the "Status bar" page in order to find what the "OVR" in the bottom of the page does, and the "Status bar" page, the way it is now, doesn't clarify much, nor point to the page where this clarification can be found.

Child behaviour when parents split up

Submitted by eu on 2018/06/01 20:16
I would like to have the option to choose the child behaviour when the parents split up. Now, when the parent splits, the child stays with the first half of the parent, but I want it to stay with the second half (the new parent).
Here is a scenario where this new behaviour would be more useful. Let's say that I want to outline the following piece of text (I need to do this hundreds of times a day):

  • If A happens, then B must happen.

Windows taskbar icon doesn't go to the secondary screen

Submitted by eu on 2018/06/01 20:01
In Windows 10, when using a multiple screen setup, there's an option to make the icons in the taskbar appear only in the taskbar of the screen in which the software window is appearing. IQ's icon is not doing this, and is only appearing in the primary screen taskbar. I've never seen this happen with another software.

One more bug involving "Start edit on a single click on: Text"

Submitted by eu on 2018/06/01 19:50
(possibly related to Edit Mode Selection Issues)
In the grid, using "Grow Font" or "Shrink Font" doesn't change the "click to activate edit mode" area (I'll call "clickable area"). Therefore, if the item is shrinked, there will be a big space of non-clickable area on the right of the end of the sentence; and, if the font is upscaled, the clickable area ends in the middle of the sentence.
Although, I tested some older upscaled items and their clickable area was matching exactly the end of the sentence. But, if I change their font size, the problem appears. I tried refreshing and restarting after changing the font size, but the problem remains.

scratch grid showing wrong items, not assigned to double-clicked field

Submitted by jimspoon on 2018/06/01 14:02
This is weird.  I double-clicked my "Voice Recorders" Y/N field in the All Fields list, and this is what popped up in the Scratch grid.  The header for the Scratch grid shows "Items from: Voice Recorders", but the Items shown in the grid are not assigned to that field (Voice Recorders is not hidden from the Properties pane, and it is not shown in the Values section.)  Instead I see items that are assigned to the "Drive - SSD" field.  I looked at the Field ID numbers in the Field Properties dialog.  "Drive - SSD" has field ID 640, and "Voice Recorders" has field ID 643.  Any clues what's going on here?

2 bugs involving "Start edit on a single click on: Text"

Submitted by eu on 2018/05/31 15:51
1-(only when WYSIWYG is off) In a grid item, I click in the middle of the sentence, but the cursor jumps to the beggining of the sentence (sometimes it jumps to the end of the sentence). When WYSIWYG is off, the cursor appears exactly where I click.

2- Edit mode is activated on the first click only if some item is already activated. For example: I'm writing something in the HTML pane (or if I click in the grid pane, but outside any row), and then decide to click on an item in the grid, the item gets selected, but the edit mode is not activated.
