Streamlined Field Creation

Submitted by David_H on 2016/05/30 14:19
I am using yes/no fields as tags.  While not perfect, they function quite well for tagging.  The main limitation is it's not efficient to quickly create and group fields in the property pane on the fly...but could be.

Please see attached screenshot of property pane.  Using the screenshot as an example, I'd like to be able to right click on "tags what", select "create new child field" and have the parent ID populated appropriately.  Possible?

BTW, one motivator here is that dragging fields to parent fields is very cumbersome, I usually have to try it about 5 times to get it to work, is there a trick to it?  If not, is there a way to improve it?

Thanks

Making it easier to re-name hyperlinks

Submitted by WayneK on 2016/05/30 14:12
I have a couple of minor suggestions for hyperlinks:

1)  Make website hyperlink text editable as soon as you drag it into the HTML pane.  Right now, the link text is shown highlighted but you cannot edit it.  You have to click somewhere in the HTML pane, then select it again to directly edit it.  Note that in the grid, the link dialogue comes up with the text highlighted so you can immediately type in the name you want.  This may not be possible because although you've dragged the link to InfoQube, and the link is highlighted, the focus is actually still in the browser window.

2) For all links, when you open the link dialogue (Ctrl-K), bring up the dialogue with the link text highlighted so you can immediately start typing to re-name it.  Right now, you have to first manually select the text before you can change it.

These suggestions are based on the assumption that the

Uninstall Portable Version

Submitted by Metta on 2016/05/28 17:28
I recently installed the portable version of InfoQube in Dropbox, and I could find no information in the User Manual or in this forum about how to uninstall IQ. IQ also does not show up when I load RevoUninstaller, and I could find no uninstall option in my IQ folder in Dropbox. Does this mean I can simply delete the entire IQ folder from Dropbox -- without initiating any kind of uninstall process? Thanks, Metta

Pop-Up Field Request

Submitted by David_H on 2016/05/26 23:06
I am using pop-up fields in columns quite a bit and find them very inefficient to use with a mouse.  First you have to click to highlight the cell, then you have to double click just to get the drop down arrow to appear, then you have to click on the arrow to get the options to appear, then you have to double click on an option to select it.

Is there any way to get them to function like the drop downs in most software, which would be:
- The drop down arrow is always visible (assuming it's a pop-up of course)
- You click on the arrow to expose the values, and click once on a value to select it.

I don't find keyboard selection any more efficient, am I missing something?

Thanks

V77 performance issues

Submitted by Armando on 2016/05/26 20:36
V77 is at least 2 times slower (maybe a bit more) for my usual grid operations (already described those operations in similar forum "performance posts" in the last few months so won't repeat uselessly here).

Can't know why it's that slower, but it is and I feel like I'm constantly waiting. (Again : not saying it's slow in an empty database, but slower, relatively speaking, compared to previous versions with myDB.)
I tried to revert to 76, but can't really work with it: some DB ini settings must be different as the UI isn't drawn properly.

Still I was able to load my DB with version 76 and it was clearly faster.**

Thanks in advance for looking at that!

**Has nothing to do with what's going on in the background (killed all apps to test performance, rebooted, restarted IQ, etc.).

Highlighting disables HTML pane links

Submitted by WayneK on 2016/05/26 11:13
I've been collecting website links in the HTML pane.  I like to use highlighting (background color) on the important ones but I've found that every time I do that, the link stops working.  I still get the little hand cursor when I hover on it, but when I click it puts me in text editing mode rather than launching the website.

I've tested this a half dozen times.  Can anyone else confirm?

By the way, unlike in the grid, in the HTML pane there's no option to remove a background color.  You can only change it to white.  I realize you can make the change in the HTML code but that's a roundabout way.

Update: highlighting does not disable website links in the grid.

Tool icons keep re-appearing after deletion

Submitted by WayneK on 2016/05/25 15:54
Every few days I notice that icons that I have deleted have been restored, creating duplicate icons that I don't need or want.

When I customize the toolbars, I don't pay any attention to toolbar assignments.  I just look at the header and then delete or add icons where I want them.  Could that be causing the problem or is there something else I'm doing wrong?  I did not add these icons and I haven't turned any toolbars on or off.  I couldn't find an answer in the help file.

You can't see the problem in action but in the screenshot below the "favorites" icon is positioned at the lower right.  On the top row there is a duplicate favorites icon that showed up 10 minutes ago.  Next to it is another duplicate ("refresh grid") icon that showed up at the same time.    There are several more dupes that  I have deleted several times but keep re-appearing over t

Propeties Pane is Back to Re-setting

I'm pretty sure I brought this up before and Pierre agreed it was an annoyance that he was going to fix, and did fix.  If so, it's back again.

I have my properties pane set to display field assignments.  Unfortunately, every time my grid focus changes to another item, the properties pane re-sets to the top, and I have to scroll down again.

While I'm at it, is there any better, more direct way to see what fields an item is assigned to?  I've been selecting each item then visually scanning my field assignments in the property pane.
