Start edit on a single click on text bug

Submitted by Armando on 2017/09/10 17:37
Hi,

Steps:

1- Options dialog : Start edit on a single click : set up to be text.

2- Set a text field/column to be the first field in a "grouped column" configuration (e.g. the item field in the screenshot below)

3- Single click in that column/field's cells won't trigger edit mode:  need to double click to enter edit mode.

set UI options (what grids are open, etc). through a /Layout command-line switch?

Submitted by jimspoon on 2017/09/10 05:16
I was wondering whether it would be possible to start up an IQ instance with a very spartan set of UI elements, e.g. perhaps only one grid open for making a new quick outline, and most UI elements hidden for a very uncluttered look.  I am wondering whether this can be done through loading IQ with a specific "layout".

I am wondering what is included in the concept of an IQ "layout" - it seems to focus on the location of panes and their docked/undocked status.  Does a "layout file" also specify what grids are loaded?  What toolbars are shown?

Copy/paste between columns

Submitted by WayneK on 2017/09/09 00:42
I posted some time back about this problem.  I need to move a massive amount of text from one column to another (from the narr-1 column to the item column).  I've found no easy way to do this.

Pierre suggested using this formula: =[narr-1].  When I pasted the formula into an item cell, it automatically copied the text from the narr-1 column.  For some reason, I can't get it to work now.  Is there some setting that has to be active for this to work?  I can't find the original thread nor more notes on the problem (grrr).

Even with a working formula this is an enormous task.  It would be so much easier if I could copy/paste like you can in Excel:  select x number of vertical cells, then select the same x number of cells in the other column, and paste.  Each block of text goes into the corresponding cell.  Doesn't work like that in InfoQube.

Split improvements

Submitted by WayneK on 2017/09/08 15:05
This was fixed previously but has returned.

1) When an item is split, there's a significant delay of 3-4 seconds for the view to refresh.
2) At the start, I have the selected item at the top of the screen, which is my preferred way of working.  After the refresh, the split item is moved to the bottom of the screen.

My ideal fix would be for it to work as it does in Ecco Pro:

1) No screen refresh when an item is split.  A new item is simply created below the existing item without any delay.
2) No change in view.  Selected item remains at the top of the screen.

"Advanced find" results

Submitted by Armando on 2017/09/07 22:42

- First, hoist the scratch grid with some items

1- Open "Advanced Find" dialog (or pane, depending on how you use/dock it) -- ctrl+shift+f
2- Search for something (I personally search the IdItem field for some number ) and use the scratch grid to display the result.
3- When the result of the search is shown, the scratch grid  doesn't unhoist.

(I normally use the advanced search (ctrl+shift+f) to quickly search the IDitem field to get to an item of which I know the number. AFAIK, It's the quickest way to do so, appart from entering it in the source bar filter of some dedicated grid.)

Thanks

new file for quick outlining

Submitted by jimspoon on 2017/09/07 08:06
Sometimes I want to make a quick outline on a particular subject that I don't want to put in my "main" database - rather I want to create a new database in a folder containing files about that specific subject.  In the past I have used Ecco for this purpose, but as I have lost familiarity with Ecco, I asked myself, why not use IQ?

So, with my main database open, I clicked on File > New > New Blank IQBase.  I gave the new file a name and clicked Save button.  I did not expect what happened next - my main database was closed, and the new file was opened in its place.  I did not want my main database file to be closed.  I thought that the File > New would open a second IQ window with the new database ready for data entry, but leaving open a window containing my main database.

pane and tabs layout not saved / not re-loaded from file

Submitted by DONLEONE on 2017/09/07 07:02
i have like 100+ tabs in different panes organized on a big 4K screen
and that's what i primarly like IQ for

but i find that sometimes it just crashes upon closing
and then re-loads just like 1 tab only
which forces me to then re-open ALL grids once again
and arrange them all over again

i tried the "save Layout" option
and the "load Layout" option
but it does not seem to restore anything

i know there is of course the option in the Tools/Options/Modes/
to "Restore Layout when opening files"

which does work like 90% of the time
but again in that time when it all crashes
then i wish i could just re-load it all from that saved file
rather than to manually have to re-arrange the whole thing again.

Icons

Submitted by WayneK on 2017/09/05 01:34
I've been using icons to flag items only to find that InfoQube sorts by the icon html code.  Wasn't expecting that and don't want that.  I guess I'll have to use a separate column for the icons.

Not sure why it sorts on icon html code but doesn't sort on formating html code (eg <b>).

Conversely, I WOULD like it to recognize the html code for filtering but it doesn't.

Bonus suggestion:  In my file manager, once you enter edit mode, you stay in edit mode when you move to a new item using the arrow key.  Very handy for when you need to edit a string of items in succession.  I miss this feature when I'm editing in InfoQube and would like to see it considered for addition.

Update:  Really don't understand what's going on because some of the icons did NOT sort to the top but remained properly sort

Grid Formatting Suggestions

Submitted by WayneK on 2017/09/01 11:07
Prompted by the upcoming improvements in grid display options, I thought this might be a good time to add some suggestions for future features.

To my mind, the grid is the most effective way to display information.  This display can be enhanced formatting.  To some extent, this is to just make the display more aesthetically pleasing and easier to read.  But beyond that, it provides another level of power for organizing information.

Short version of suggestions: provide more of the formatting options that Excel provides for grids.

1) Alignment

a) good: provide alignment options for column headers.  Right now, the headers are always left-aligned.  This looks bad when column text is centered.
b) better: allow individual cells and headers to be aligned independently
