Why does InfoQube try to reset the grid source when a field is created?

Submitted by WayneK on 2015/12/10 23:38
It took me a while to figure out why my grid source keeps changing.  I'm using an inbox grid to assign items to other grids.  I often have to pause to create a new topic field.  Every time I do this, a dialogue comes up saying I'm about to re-set the source field for the current grid.

Why does creating a new field cause InfoQube to want to change the current grid source?

Crashing every time I enter text in HTML pane

Submitted by WayneK on 2015/12/08 21:01
Everything's been going fine for several days except for my image problems.  Just now, when I started to enter text in the HTML, InfoQube crashed ("InfoQube has stopped working").  The second instance of IQ I was running also crashed.

I've now opened IQ more than a dozen times and it has crashed 100% of the time as soon as I press the first keystroke to enter text in any HTML pane.

I did notice a few times over the last couple of days that when I opened IQ, the HTML pane would have a gray background with strange symbols in it.  I tried to reproduce this to get a screenshot but haven't been able to get it to repeat.  No idea if it's related to the crashing.

Database repair didn't fix it.

Update: just remembered that sometimes when programs when crash, their process remains running.  If you then launch the program again, it'll crash.  I'

How do images in grid affect database size?

This is a question I raised in the thread about image problems in the HTML pane.  I suggested maybe I should put images in the grid.  I wouldn't want to put all images there, but the more I think about it, I can see some good uses for it.  For example, if I have a link to a nice graphic, a thumbnail view next to it would be a helpful reminder of what the image is.

One of the nice things about using the HTML pane is that images are saved as separate files, so you never have to worry about overloading your database.  What about the grid?  I presume in that case the images would be saved within the database.  Would a large number of images in the grid be a potential problem?

Right Click - Sort A-Z is Gone

Submitted by David_H on 2015/12/05 22:56
So I've really been getting into IQ in a much more serious way, customizing it and so on.  Today I've been working in it, customizing the toolbar and so on.  Now I go to some TLI's, right click, and my sort ascending and sort descending options are gone.  Closed and reopened the program - still gone.  The only thing I can think of remotely related to this is I took duplicate sort A-Z commands off the toolbar, surely that shouldn't have anything to do with what shows up in the right click menu, but somehow I think it caused this.

Any ideas here?  Right click menu attached as an image.

I also reset the toolbars, but still the same thing.

Copy and Paste Problems

Submitted by David_H on 2015/12/05 14:33
I've run into this before, see 60 second video .  Use case:

1. I want to copy and paste as NEW items from one parent to a different parent in the same grid.

2. So I select copy and the option 4 ("selected items").

3. Now I try to paste the item/s to the new parent item and select 1 (paste under parent as NEW items).

The screen flashes, the item appears briefly and then disappears.  If I do a search for the item, I find it exists, but with no grid, so what is happening is that when i paste it, it's not receiving the value of the gird it's being pasted into.  Why not?  Please see the 60 second video below.

Grids performance

I'm bringing this back up as I found IQ slower recently. IQ's grids display/autorefresh (calculations?). Did Something change in the way grids are refreshed (or calculations performed?)?

I just did some tests between 59 and 62, and only found a  slight difference :

-V59 : check the followup field : 11 items : 7s
-V62 : check the followup field : 11 items : 7.3s

But often the slowness is very perceptible, so I'm wondering. Maybe it gets slower over time? Not sure yet.

Thanks

top level item loosing field assignment when moved

Submitted by Armando on 2015/12/04 13:33

I know it's not a bug per se, but for me it acts like one.

Most of the time when an item is created as TLI, IQ assigns it the corresponding grid source field (I'm simplifying).

However, when the TLI is moved down the hierarchy (moved under another TLI), that field/source assignation is cancelled/deleted.

This can have annoying consequences -- it often does here! -- since this doesn't happen in any obvious way and what was there (the field) isn't anymore just because the item was moved.

E.g. A task moved under another item will arbitrarily stop being a task just because it was moved (no rule says that a task isn't allowed to be moved under another item in the same grid...) and might be disappear from some other grid where it should absolutely remain. This task might obviously be missed etc.
