'Getting Started' Documentation Queries

Submitted by Tom on 2015/12/28 09:09
I'm looking at the "getting started" documentation, so thought I'd start a thread for related queries.

On the -- link to nonexistent node ID 860 -- page (shopping list tutorial), instructions are given to create a new sample file -- and then delete the contents:

  • If you haven't created a Database yet, then click on File -> New (click)
(Clicking on "New" will create a "New IQBase with sample data"; note that we DON'T want a "New blank IQBase", from the sub-menu option).
    Give it a name.

  • [..]

  • The shopping list example is included in the new file just created, so to do it yourself, completely erase all data:

Column display problem after modifying fields

Working with a new file --
Creating and modifying fields:
right-click column header to the right of the 'item' field and open the Field Properties dialogue, click save and close it, the columns (apart from the item field) collapse to about 1cm width on my screen.
=> They also loose wordwrap.

As you can imagine, quite distracting when setting up a new grid + fields.

Christmas Promotion !

Christmas promotion !

In preparing for InfoQube v1.0 official release, we'd like to create a buzz around advanced information management tools...
In these days of simple single focused apps, isn't refreshing to see a new full featured information manager come to life ?

And what better ways to create a buzz than to offer free stuff... So from now until the end of 2015:

Multi-Select Pop-up Lists

When categorizing information, it is often useful to assign multiple properties to items. InfoQube provides many ways to do this, namely:
  • Placing the item under more than one parent, the parent being a category description
  • Assigning it many yes/no field values. Each field representing a category
  • Assigning a value in a text field. So if the field name is Color for example, users could enter Red, Green or Blue to describe the item. To assign more than one value, additional text fields can be used.
It is possible to easily assign multiple values in single text field. In the field properties Editor section, simply check the Multi-Select check box:

Grid Management Problems: Duplicates & Disappearances

Submitted by WayneK on 2015/12/18 20:09
1) I created a new grid
2) I went to the grid management list and found there were three grids listed with the same name I just created.
3) Thought maybe I'd previously created the extra grids and forgot about it. So I deleted two of them.
4) Went on to create another grid.  This time I verified there were no existing grids with this name.

[Solved] Disappearing Items

I have a thread going here about a way to search for "orphan" items.  But what I really need to get to the bottom of is why do I have items that keep losing values, which is what caused me to ask about that search method in the first place?  It's a huge issue because I start to try to work in IQ but instead find myself trying to find items I know should be there.

Today I went to a new grid I created a week ago to review an item I had entered in it.  Item is nowhere to be found.  I search and here it is:

This should have showed up in the grid I entered it in titled "professional dashboard".  That value has been lost.  Why???  I should note I let IQ create the "professional dashboard" grid automatically and have not a
