Advice for moving an IQ database

Submitted by Tom on 2011/04/06 08:00

I'm moving my online backup - from Dropbox to SpiderOak - so I'm reorganising my (pc) world as I no longer limited to a dropbox folder.

Any problems related to moving a large database with loads of links?
- the file(s) will be on the same partition

Which files do I need to move? I did a search online & in the manual (unsuccessful) and the tree view of the manual which is my usual approach to the manual !!
In the IQ folder I see
  1. *.sndb.Files (FOLDER)
  2. *.sndb
  3. *.ldb
  4. *.sndb.ini
  5. *.ini
I presume I can simply move/copy all of these & everything will be okay ?
Thanks in advance

Selecting multiple items in Quick Search pane problematic if file links involved

Submitted by Tom on 2011/04/05 15:11

I dont use Search that often, but I dont remember having this problem before.

In the Quick search pane, using the mouse:

I select an item from the list no problem, by clicking anywhere in the item-field cell
To select the second item I have to click on the text within the cell (pressing control if I want to keep the first item selected).

  • Improved column selection when the Sortbar is shown (must hold CTRL key to select)
  • Gantt bar colors are not set correctly in the blank IQBase (see Gantt chart problems in Version O)
  • Fixed: Adding a field through the Field Properties dialog does not set the grid header caption correctly (if different than field name)
  • Fixed: Gantt chart updating is not always performed

    Added: 2011-04-05 in v0.9.25P1
  • Fixed: Fast Search not always returning the correct list of items

New column sorting in Version 25O

Selecting columns has been a real gotcha for me in InfoQube...it still is. Select columns really is used in two contexts: 1) to add and remove columns to the outline, and 2) to literally select the column in a table. To me IQ breaks the standards here + adds confusion factors (the Easter egg hunt for how to add and remove columns).

this is improved in the new version "O".
I'm though wondering where this leaves sort?

Version 0.9.25O is now available !

Version v0.9.25O is now released ! Download it here.

In this release:
  1. Improved column selection (see New User "Gotcha" list)
  2. Minor menu reorganisation
  3. Column click sorts even when the Sortbar is not shown (see Group items by sort column : after a refresh, it stays, but it's messed up. (M))
  4. Import Data: only imports the first 32000 characters (see Is there a limit on number of items imported via a CSV text file ?)
  5. If the Tree column is changed from the default column (Item) to different one, a dialog is shown.
  6. In Tools >> Keyboard Shortcuts added a Customize menu (same as right-click on a toolbar, see Customizing Menus and Toolbars)
  7. Gantt update problem when linking bars Gantt problems in version N
  8. Improved Ecco Importer (see Ecco Pro Import)
  9. Properties Pane: Right-click on a field >> Show items with values for this field : Fails if the field name contains a space or a punctuation
Enjoy !

Introductory manual page.

I made some changes to the "first" manual page which I found very confusing. InfoQube Documentation: Main Page Seems clearer now. But still find it confusing, go for it and make some further changes. Thanks. P.S. When I click on the "table of content" link though, the nodes at the top don't appear as they should. I don't have the time to find out why at the moment.

Is there a limit on number of items imported via a CSV text file ?

CSV text file, tab seperated, no text markers
There are 1594 entries

When I import, I choose correct settings, including deselecting "First row contains field names".
I give each column a field

In step 2 of the import it says, 1 to 635
It imports 635 entries - they are imported correctly but no sign of the rest **- If I change the number to 1594 (actual number of entries) or 1600 there is no difference.

** Two blank items are imported - so it actually only imports 633 entries.

I've had a look at the CSV file in text editor but find no problem (but I'm not an expert).

I've tried this also in the sample file using creating fields for the columns.
Any ideas?

(I could send someone the text file but I wouldnt want to post it here)

"Nomenclature Discrepancy" Page in the manual - discuss things in page?

Submitted by Tom on 2011/03/31 04:30

Armando created a new manual page where we can add discrepancies in the naming of things within IQ

I added the idea there that we could give opinions within the page, and maybe a little discussion, also within the page. Logic being that posting comments in manual pages may possibly be disabled - also a lot of comments would be moot after a while as IQ get update.

If you think it's a better idea to do this kind of thing in the forum.
