Text off bottom of screen

Submitted by WayneK on 2019/12/25 13:02
Merry Christmas, everyone.

I mentioned before that I sometimes find myself typing off the bottom of the screen with the text going out of view as I type.  This happens to me a few times a day (I use InfoQube a lot so the percentage of occurrences is not high).

I was unable to find a reproducible case where it occurs, even for myself.  I just noted that I repeatedly find my text disappearing off the screen at the bottom, and in most cases I can't remember exactly what happened beforehand.

Finally found a case that was reproducible, at least for me.  See attached PDF.

The key cause here was InfoQube refreshing the screen when a new item was created and putting the selected item at the bottom.  When you type multi-line text from there, you go off the screen.

This appears to be the same as the recent issue with the Properties Pane r

Calendar event order re-shuffled / recurrence disappearing when clicking on events in the vertical no-timescale view

Submitted by LeftEccoForIQ on 2019/12/23 05:41
I've attached two screencasts and two screenshots to document this. The videos show the re-shuffling in the first and reshuffling plus the bottommost recurrence disappearing in the second video. An unwanted result of syncing? The screenshots are of the disappearing calendar entry before (from backup) and after triggering the bug. Note that it says 'This item has been changed from the series' before but not after. So the item is still scheduled to appear in the calendar for the set date but I can't get it to show up.

Let me know if you need more evidence.

I'm kinda worried now that some other repeating events might be missing from my IQ calendar...

As for the ordering and display of events in this view (or generally), I previously posted some suggestions, just wanted to make sure that you saw them as it's something I consider rather important for everyday use.

Cheerio!

Need a Field to Show Grids

Submitted by David_H on 2019/12/22 07:47
I've been working in IQ for several straight hours and it just occurred to me that probably 90% of my looking over to the Properties pane (which is often not visible) is to see what grids an item is in. You have a fantastic field for tags that shows all the tags assigned to an item. Could you create a similar field for grids, that would show all the grids an item is assigned to? At least for me it would be a big timer saver and I would have to activate and deactivate panes a whole lot less.

Thanks!

Repeatable Crash

  • Tools > Google Connect
  • Use the little dot selector on a calendar that has already been set up and choose a different date field to sync with*. IQ tells you it has previously synced with a different calendar and are you sure. Click "Yes" and IQ freezes.

*Probably not best practice but I was trying to do it for an unused calendar that had never synced any items anyhow.
Also I believe Tom reported this next once once before. My calendar keeps going back to 1898 :-). Not sure why but I did just have top force IQ closed because of the above incident. Perhaps that causes it to go back to 1989?

Can't get rid of tree lines

Submitted by David_H on 2019/12/21 19:01
I am starting to use a lot of grouping in my grids. However when I want to group by column, IQ keeps inserting tree lines. Here is what happens. I load a grid with grouped columns and attachment 1 is what I get - see the tree line.

So now I go to Tools > Options and do nothing other than hit "apply". Now the grid gets rid of the tree lines, as in attachment 2, since I have my option settings as "no lines" and "no lines at root".

But now if I hit refresh the tree lines are back. Please note - I have checked individual grid settings and in none of them do I have grid specific settings for tree lines.

Link to Home

1) Item55 is a subitem under a top-line-item in its home grid.

2) Item55 gets assigned to other grids and other parents.

3) How can I go directly from Item55 in any location to seeing it displayed in its home grid under its home parent?

The home grid identifier in the properties pane does not function as a link.

The parent identifier IS a link, but doesn't take you to Item55 itself.

Is there a way to do this?  I'm looking for a home link that will display any item in its home location.

Make Grouping Column Bold?

Submitted by David_H on 2019/12/19 06:54
I am starting to use grouping by columns quite a bit. I would really like whatever column I drag to the group bar to be bold, it would make it much easier to easily spot the groupings. Is this possible and if not please consider adding as a feature.

I do see that I can make the grouped column heading bold by using an outline style that makes the 1st level bold, but then of course all the items are bold too.

Thanks

Show tagged items (grid subset)

Submitted by WayneK on 2019/12/18 15:46
From the manual:

You can also filter the result to only items that are also shown in a given grid. To do so:
  1. Open the grid
  2. Switch to the Tags pane
  3. Select tags
  4. Right-click > Show Items (Grid Subset)
I presumed this to mean that the tag search will display only items that match the tag AND are shown in the current grid.

But for me, it shows all tagged items from everywhere.  In fact, it works identically to "show items".

Could someone explain what this means and how it works?

How To - Instantly clip CLEANLY formatted web pages into IQ

Submitted by David_H on 2019/12/18 07:13
Anyone who has ever used Evernote/OneNote/Pocket/Instapaper etc. quickly becomes spoiled by their browser extensions ability to instantly clip web pages into those programs in a "simplified" view (no ads) or screenshot or bookmark etc. I've experimented with solutions for achieving the same with IQ using services such as Zapier to gmail to IQ but none with good results.

The only good solution I found was "email this" but I was not interested in paying a never ending yearly subscription for it. Anyhow, for those interested, Email This is running a $40 lifetime special for the premium version that you can get using the link below and for me it is more than worth it. It's a huge time saver and also makes everything more readable.

So the Omnibox really is an omnibox

Submitted by LeftEccoForIQ on 2019/12/17 17:39
Wanted to search for the term 'backup' from the Omnibox and was surprised with this messagebox:

I hadn't actually realized it executes commands etc.

What syntax do I use to make sure it only searches and does not execute any commands? Also, is the dropdown list supposed to expand automatically while typing in the box? I have to click the arrow button to see what's in it.
