Portable version won't start <SOLVED>

Submitted by shatteredmindofbob on 2009/07/27 18:37
I'm trying to run the latest version of InfoQube, which only has a download for the portable version.

Anyway, on Windows 7, all it does is display the little opening title box in the middle of the screen for about half a second and then nothing.

I thought perhaps my anti-virus was being overzealous and shutting it down, so I shut it off and tried again. Same thing.

I also tried one version previous (also seems to be portable-only) with the same problem.

Any ideas on what could be wrong? I am trying to run it from a directory I made on the desktop and not a USB stick.

Fields options : questions about the "Read Only" option.

Submitted by Armando on 2009/07/27 14:22
There's a "read only" option in the fields management dialog.

I thought that read only only prevented user to manually populate the field, but I just realized that not even an "in field" equation will write to the field when "Read only" is ON...

I'm surprised. Has it always been working this way ? And how can I only block manual user entries in a field but allow normal equations
operations ?

(I have a few fields with a "= anotherfield" equation (mainly for fields that had changed names without me being aware of it and I didn't want to transfer all the data... for equations reasons, etc.))

Loading database freezes main program

Hi

Fresh user here. Just downloaded latest portable xp version 0.9.24D.

Program opens fine, but after File - New, and creating new database program start to hanging.. after 7-8 seconds opens only right (html) pane and finally freezes with "Loading" text in title bar.

I tried a few variations - moving instalation or database directory elsewhere, downloaded sample database from your site, tried with 0.9.24C version.. - but with no success, same problem remained.

any idea?

Ecco Pro Import

IQ is based on the same concept as Ecco Pro, so it is easy to transfer your information from Ecco to IQ.

The Ecco Pro importer does the following:
  • Import Top level items (TLI) and all their sub-items
  • Creates fields for each of the Ecco Pro folders. Field types are compatible with Ecco's
  • For each imported item, all folder values are imported (a field value in IQ terminology)
  • Notepads are not imported. To find your imported items, you can use one of the following ways:
    • Click on Step 4: View All Ecco Imported Items
    • Open the Journal grid and click on the Today button
    • Open the Properties pane, and in Available Fields, right-click on an Ecco imported field and select Show items with values for this field
    • Create a new grid and in dialog select from an Imported Ecco field from the list
  • Forms are not imported
  • Filters are not imported

Getting confused about hierarchy variations

Submitted by Tom on 2009/07/27 10:04
I normally only use Full Hierarchy.
Trying to explain the differences between Hierarchy & Full Hierarchy to Jay in the thread Items appear more than once I've ended up very confused myself

With simple source and no filters on
Full Hierarchy shows all sub-items,

My problem is with Hierarchy (without Full Hierarchy):-
  • when Sub-items meet source, only those are shown (no siblings are shown that dont meet source)
  • yet, when no sub-items meet source: all sub-items are shown

is this a feature or a bug or am I misunderstanding something??

Default location for new InfoQube databases

Submitted by PIMfan on 2009/07/26 22:06

Since InfoQube is a windows application, I would like to see the default location for the InfoQube databases (cant recall if they're called InfoBases or InfoQubes) stored under the My Documents folder in a subfolder call "My InfoQubes".

I routinely back up my user created content, and storing user content under My Documents simplifies backup since I only need to backup one directory and all of it's subdirectories and content.

I realize the files can be stored anywhere, but I instinctively went to My Documents to look for the datafiles at first....

Maybe the new file dialog could be modified to indicate if the InfoQube is single-user or multi-user.  If single user, default location is as described above, and for multi-user, the user can browse to find the folder where they want it (typically a fileshare location outside the local machine)....
