Hierarchical Tagging System

Submitted by Paul_J_Miller on 2018/05/09 19:00
I like to classify things by tagging them.  But I find it much more useful if the tagging system has its own hierarchy.  Unfortunately most note taking programs have flat tagging systems.

I am in the process of transferring some of my notes into InfoQube to give it a more thorough workout and see if I can break it

My first attempt at making a hierarchical tagging system involved assigning the items in the hierarchy as parents to the topics (articles) and this works but it doesn't scale very well, it becomes cumbersome quite quickly so I wondered about using WikiTags (ugh ...

Options Settings

Submitted by jnmwarren on 2018/05/09 11:35
I downloaded and installed the newest version of 0.9.108. I setup my options yesterday and when I came in this morning and loaded the application all of my options settings where gone. All of the settings reverted back to the default options. Any suggestions on how to prevent this from happening in the future.

Thanks,
John

Detour (aka the grass wasn't greener)

I'm back from a "brief" 7 year detour from Infoqube.. The time was split between Tiddlywiki, then Onenote. TW (which ran in a browser) started off great, then they decided  to rebuild it from scratch, breaking compatibility, and also browser increased security started making it challenging. And of course, it was removed from the approved software list at work. Onenote, which I'll still have to use at work, does scale nicely (approximately 4 gigabytesm 50000 notes at work), and the OCR feature is still one thing I will miss.Since Microsoft is working on sunsetting the desktop version, and doesn't plan to put local save in the newer "free" version, it was time for a change.
And, I've been using IQ now for 2 days, and I'm very impressed with it; I'm figuring it out again quickly, just trying to learn one small thing each day, and I'll be importing by attrition. I guess I'll skim 7 years of forum posts. I'm back for good.

Grid Bugs

Submitted by jnmwarren on 2018/04/24 12:44
I have come across two different errors.

1. As I am entering data in the grid and press the tab key to advance to the next cell of the grid advancement does not happen. I am not in the Item grid cell when I press the tab key. By pressing the tab key the cursor ends up in the HTML editor pane and not the next cell.
2. I have noticed that when IQ crashes. None of the work I had done before the crash is save on the first grid tab. Most all of the data that is imputed on the other tabs is saved just not the first tab.

Thanks,
John

using iq with autohotkey

Submitted by jimspoon on 2018/04/17 21:24
I use autohotkey, usually for the purpose of entering the date in the format "2018.04.17.2020", via an autohotkey hotstring.  For some reason when I am using IQ on my desktop, and I type in my autohotkey hotstring into a IQ grid cell, it does not get expanded.  However, if I type in my hotstring into any other program on my desktop, it does get expanded.  Curiously enough, when I am running IQ on my laptop, the hotstring does get expanded when I type it into an IQ grid cell.

Anybody else use autohotkey with IQ, and have a similar problem?

It's not a big deal, but it is a minor annoyance.

Experience from an Outliner's Perspective

Pierre -  Over on the Outliner forum you asked for some comments.  I don't think what I have typed below is appropriate over there, so am tying them in full here.  I do hate to sound like a complainer but maybe these will be of some use to you.  Good luck with your program:

For purposes of this test I downloaded the latest version to start from scratch.

I start the program and immediately see some type of mostly blank "home page" that has nothing to do with outlining as far as I can tell.  Because of years of playing with this I know that your outlines have something to do with "Grids" which I would never be able to expect my secretary or anyone else to understand without training.

Because I know I need to go to a grid to start an outline, I look for how to start a new Grid.  The references on the "home page"

Google Calendar and Tasks Sync

Submitted by David_H on 2018/04/15 17:25
When I create a Google task with a due date, it shows up on my Google calendar. It's a great feature and I use it a lot. I don't recall whether that's ever been discussed with regard to the IQ/Google Calendar sync that is being worked on. My wish list:

  • Any Google task that shows up on my Google Calendar should similarly show up on my IQ calendar.
  • Any IQ task with a due date that is selected to show on my IQ calendar should show up on my Google Calendar.
Of course the settings for both should be controllable by the user based on what the user wants to sync. I can imagine some users not wanting their IQ tasks to sync to Google calendar or perhaps visa versa.

Thanks

The power of handwriting: One more reason to use IQ's Ink documents

Hi IQ Users !

From a 2016 article in the WSJ:

Students who take notes by hand in class outperform students who type notes.
As more students use their phones, laptops and tablets in class, they may be surprised to learn they will have more success learning new material if they write.
