Auto item text based on content

Often, one wants the item text to reflect the first line of a document. MSWord does that to determine the proposed file name. InfoQube does the same:

Iff the item text is empty (and only if), then on the first time that the user hits the enter key in the Doc Pane and the Add new item form, the item text will be set to the first line of text.

1. Using the enter key in the Add new item form:

Some text has been added to the Add New Item dialogue. Note the "Item Text" is empty.  Now hit the ENTER key:

The first line fills the "Item Text" area:

Using Marked Items

Marking items is a means of selecting one or more items.
It is similar to regular item selection except that:
  • It is persistent in that marked items remain as such until replaced with other items
  • The list of marked items is shown in the Properties pane

To mark items:
  1. Select one or more items in any UIs (Grid, Calendar, Surface, Live-Search)
  2. Do Item > Marked Items > Mark Items (Ctrl+Shift+M)
  3. Mark Items will first clear the list. To add, use Add to Marked Items instead

Once items are marked, you can:
  • Add these as sub-items of the currently selected item.

How to search by created date?

Submitted by WayneK on 2017/06/16 01:37
I have an orphaned item and no idea where it belongs in my outline.  If I knew what other items were created on the same day, I could figure it out.  But I can't figure out how to search the ItemCreated field.

I opened advanced find.  I put the date in the search box.  I looked at the list of fields to search in: "ItemCreated" was not listed.

How do I search by the created date?  Alternatively, how would you go about finding the proper location of an orphaned item?

I figured out a workaround:  I went to the grid that contains all the items similar to the orphaned item.  I opened the "created" column and filtered for the relevant date.

Update:  I'm guessing you can only search text fields.  Don't know why that would be.  Still haven't found the home for the orphan.  Could find it directly if I co

Online help

Thank you very much for the online help feature. This gives searchable access to the manual and I find it very useful.

There is one facility that I think should probably be withdrawn. Currently, it is possible to hyperlink to the online manual - which is great. However, it remains possible to comment directly on the manual. I don't think that that is a very good idea. Firstly, comments made in the manual remain visible "forever", even if they are no longer true or relevant. Secondly, such comments are not made visible in the "What's new" page which I think most IQ users make use of. [Incidentally: a direct link from the currently-displayed help page to the >> What's New << page would perhpas be a good thing for new IQ users?]

Hyperlinks to grids

Concerning hyperlinks to grids:

  1. A hyperlink to a grid does not open the grid, which is what I would hope for. Instead it opens the Scratch grid. The hyperlink was created using the [gridName] syntax.
  2. The Links grid is present in my standard IQbase. However, it contains very few items and I can't work out what appears there and why.

Difficulty adding images to posts

Submitted by Tom on 2017/06/14 09:44
the way I upload images to a forum post no longer works the same ( I have found a workaround)

'Click 'Link' tab >
Click [Browse server] >
Click [Browse] browse to file > click [Upload File]
the image displays once uploaded >
at this stage I used double-click image and it would upload to post -- this no longer works - it does show a link
so,
in order to display image in post, you now have to copy that link and paste it in the URL field under the "Image info" tab

This just a 'heads-up' report - had no real problems, but I was confused by second error message).

I wanted to get some info from a very old file, dated 2012-11-04

On opening I got this message
---------------------------
Upgrading the IQBase to the current format (4.04) failed. Current format is 3.06. Close all instances of InfoQube, and perform a database repair. If the issue remains, contact InfoQube Support.

I closed other instances of IQ and tried a repair, got this message:

Database corruption was detected...

14828 items were deleted in the repair process because there were corrupted.

Using the Surface as a study tool

Submitted by Pierre_Admin on 2017/06/13 14:40
Hi IQ Users,

My 14 year old daughter wanted to use IQ to help her study for her science final exam... Sure I told her.

After a quick tutorial, she was plugging away at the keyboard, adding and linking science-related items.

She worked for 2 days straight with very few breaks. At the end, she came back, happy of her creation. With over 480 items on the surface !!!

A proud girl, and a very proud father !!
